“A Gentleman in Moscow.” Under the creative direction of Ben Vanstone and the story curated by famous novelist Amor Towles, “A Gentleman in Moscow ” is a historical drama thriller series that takes us back to the vintage sets of the Moscow city.
Led by Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, the narrative acquaints us with Count Alexander Rostov, a Russian aristocrat who, although not executed, is sentenced to life in house imprisonment in the opulent Metropol hotel.
He is exiled to the hotel’s attic room after having his title and material wealth taken away from him, where he watches Russian history being written. The protagonist was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on 24 October 1889.
The main lead follows a series of tragedies when he lost both of his parents at the hands of a deadly disease in 1900 and became an orphan along with his sister Helena. Both the children are then under the care of Count’s father’s friend and comrade, Grand Duke Demidov.
Every chapter in the book is written in a chronological framework that alternates between doubling and halving of the days. The story begins and continues for two days in the second chapter, and then jumps forward five days, ten days, three weeks, six weeks, three months, six months, one year, two years, four years, eight years, and sixteen years and the series is then further taken to the last day and last chapter of the story.
A Gentleman in Moscow (2024): Where Was TV Series Filmed?
RUSSIA
A major part of A Gentleman in Moscow series has been reportedly filmed across the Russian Mainland, especially in the Metropol Hotel. As per reports, principal photography for the inaugural iterations of the show commenced in late February 2023 and was wrapped up in January 2024.
The production team utilized the locale successfully while portraying Count and Nian’s tangled love story with great applause. A Gentleman in Moscow series unfolds with various cinematic shots taken in Moscow, Russia which provide a distinguished and unique vintage look to A Gentleman in Moscow tv series.
GREATER MANCHESTER (ENGLAND)
A major portion of the movie was also shown in Greater Manchester. The production team captured the vintage shots of the series at the amazing tourist place. Some of the locations that the viewers can easily identify are 37 Knowsley Street in Bolton, Heaton Park on Sheepfoot Lane in Manchester, and Le Mans Crescent which are visible to the naked eye in a few scenes.

The Bolton Town Hall in Victoria Square, which serves as both the Kremlin and a representation of 1920s Russia with snow covering the steps and surrounding area was also lensed in the cinematography of the movie.
Space Studios on Vaughan Street in Manchester also witnessed many impeccable shots. The studio provided a large muscular space to the production unit which was then utilized by the team to lens a few shots. Other amenities that the studio provides are superfast Wi-Fi, secure parking, air cooling, hair & make-up facilities, and more.
Not only this but many other locations such as Liverpool Town Hall on the High Street in Liverpool can also be seen in the various backdrops which provided a platform for the production team to complete the shooting.

Alongside the Grade II listed Halifax Town Hall in the town of Halifax in West Yorkshire, Leeds Civic Hall, which is situated in Leeds, West Yorkshire also served as a prominent filming location for the production of A Gentleman in Moscow series.
