The emotionally buzzed and 1997 hit romantic tragedy helm, Titanic is not new to the eyes of the public, where a heartwarming story of a couple falls into the hymns of death when their happy cruise journey is swept away by the hands of lord. Jack, a third-class passenger, makes his way to meet his charming crush, Rose.
Their budding love story and beautiful chemistry are ruined by the sinking of the popular RMS Titanic which is recorded as one of the deadliest events in the history of disaster causing numerous casualties.
The tragic event was thrown into the light when the movie, TITANIC, became a major hit across the World. Under the direction of James Cameron, the movie is beautifully filmed with the tragic as well as sweet moments syncing together causing an outburst of emotions within the audience.
Where Was Titanic Movie Filmed?
The movie “Titanic” was shot in Mexico, the USA, Canada, and the Atlantic Ocean. According to reports, principal photography started on July 31, 1996, and ended on March 23, 1997.

ATLANTIC OCEAN
The capturing and filming of the movie was an emotionally challenging task for the crew as well as the cast. A group of skilled drivers found their way underlying the depths of the Atlantic Ocean while discovering the wrecked deck of the original Titanic Canyon which is located in the south of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, Canada, in the North Atlantic seas.
Many cinematic shots shown in the movie were actually filmed at the original RMS Titanic which made the backdrops quite realistic. It was no doubt a great way to portray the originality of the movie by using the original background. It somehow also connects the cast while playing the memorable scenes.
CALIFORNIA, MEXICO
Most of the scenes were shot at Fox Baja Studios (now Baja Studios), a production facility close to the Baja California vacation town of Rosarito, Mexico. The production company built it so they could film the majority of the historical scenes in the film, which included the exterior and interior of the RMS Titanic.
Around $40 million was spent on the tank alone to build the life-size external set of the ship from scratch. To cut costs, several components were created repeatedly, like windows were duplicated using computer-generated imagery.
To create a visually cohesive image, other accessories like the boats and funnels were built at a scale of 90%. With an exhausting $200 million budget the movie was filmed across various production studios.
Halifax Harbour, Dartmouth
In particular, the port served as the setting for the opening scene of the film, which features Gloria Stuart and Bill Paxton’s characters starting their hunt for the “missing” Heart of the Sea necklace. Many other scenes including the main leads were captured at the scenic harbor port.
Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco
Another famous location which has now been converted into the National Liberty Ship Memorial, Fisherman’s Wharf now operates as a WWII museum. The interior scenes of Titanic were shot originally known as the SS Jeremiah O’Brien.

The place was built by the New England Shipbuilding Corporation in June 1943 which now serves as a memorial place.
Belmont Plaza Pool, Long Beach
This place witnessed the most traumatizing scenes in the history of human love. The separation of Jack and Rose shown in the movie was filmed at this pool. The pool was a sizable set for the filming of the scene and captured an outburst of emotions when Jack and Rose drifted apart.
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA
The location was also utilized by the production team for capturing the various scenes of the movie. The coastal city was successfully used to capture the cinematic shots of the movie.
HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA
Halifax, the capital of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia in the east, is an Atlantic port city where a few sequences were shot. By coincidence, several of the RMS Titanic’s recovered items are on display in the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, located in downtown Halifax at 1675 Lower Water Street.
One of the items is a wooden paneling that serves as the model for the log that Rose uses to stay afloat in the film. Many stories state that a large part of the movie was filmed in a Halifax cemetery. Three local cemeteries now hold the remains of almost 100 persons who perished in the horrific event.
