Netflix’s ‘The Watcher’ Based on a true story titled ‘The Haunting of a Dream House’ by Reeves Wiedeman, published in The Cut in 2018, is a true crime series created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan.
It revolves around a married couple who move into their dream house in the suburbs and look forward to settling into their new neighborhood. However, their new residence becomes a nightmare when they start receiving creepy and intimidating letters from a stalker named “The Watcher”.
The family’s life is further complicated by the presence of strange neighbors, any of whom could be the creep sending them threatening letters. While the suspenseful direction grabs the audience’s attention, the darker undertones and backdrop of a palatial home make one wonder if it is being filmed in the actual house where the incident took place.
Where Was The Watcher Series Filmed?
“The Watcher” is filmed entirely in New York, mainly in Westchester County and New York City. Principal photography for the initial iteration of the series reportedly began in late September 2021 and wrapped up in early March 2022.
So, without further ado, let’s take a look at all the specific locations in The Watcher Netflix series!
New York
Most of “The Watcher” takes place in Westchester County, the seventh most populous county in New York State. The production team will be camping at the property at 1 Warriston Lane in the coastal suburban town of Rye.
So instead of using the existing home at 657 Boulevard, Westfield, New Jersey, where the story takes place, the film crew uses a more suitable and modern residence than the real one. Even though the show shows the real address, it changes the zip code from 07090 to 11537.

Interestingly, the series fictionally states that the house was built in 1921 and consists of five bathrooms, a half-basement, four bedrooms, a half-attic, and an in-ground pool.
On the other hand, the actual Broaddus family home was built in 1905 and sits on nearly half an acre, with six bedrooms, four bathrooms, multiple fireplaces, and no pool. However, in real life, the Rye residence, which represents the Westfield residence, was built in 2016 by Douglas VanderHorn, an architectural firm based in Greenwich, Connecticut.
