The Horror Movie ‘The Exorcist is a story and screenplay by William Peter Blatty, based on Blatty’s anonymous novel. When her 12-year-old daughter was demon-possessed, actor Chris MacNeil called on Jesuit priests to take care of the situation. However, as the priests get used to the ritual, they realize a great deal of wickedness.

Where Was The Exorcist Movie Filmed?
‘The Exorcist was recorded in the US and surrounding areas of the US and Iraq, particularly in Washington DC. The main shooting took place on August 14, 1972, and ended in June 1973.
New York
The Exorcist film screening took place in various locations inside and around the Big Apple. Hospital scenes were taken at Bellevue Hospital. Located on 462 First Avenue in the Kips Bay area of Manhattan, it is the oldest public hospital in the US. MacNeil’s internal sequence was recorded at CECO Studios. A temporary studio facility located on West 54th Street in Manhattan, this place no longer exists.

The recording of the incident, along with others, took place in the area below Keating Hall, on the premises of Fordham University, the University of the University at 441 East Fordham Road, Rose Hill area in NYC.
Internal routes for the psychiatric ward were taken from Goldwater Memorial Hospital, which is part of Coler Specialty Hospital. Once located on One Main Street on the southern tip of Roosevelt Island, the treatment center for chronic illness is now permanently closed. Additional scenes were recorded at New York University Medical Center, at 550 First Avenue, Manhattan, and Hell’s Kitchen.
Washington, DC
The Exorcist story took place around Washington, DC, and as a result, many recordings took place in the capital as well. Located at 3600 Prospect Street, in the historic area of Georgetown, in the southwestern part of the region, stands outside MacNeil’s residence. The group put on a false wing to make the windows of Regan’s room appear closer to the stairs.
In a row where Chris investigates the noise in the basement, they put a mansard roof over the house. The famous “Exorcist Steps” were actually called Hitchcock Steps. “The Exorcist.” The opening sequence is actually recorded in an excavation site near the Iraqi city of Mosul. The site of the archeological excavations at the earliest stages of the movie is the ancient Mesopotamian city of Hatra, just south of Mosul.
