Siberia Movie Filming Locations
Matthew Ross chose Russia and Canada as key venues for the ‘Siberia’ story. Interestingly, not all Siberian scenes were filmed in Russia but most were shot in various small towns in the Great White North. The recording of “Siberia” began in May 2017 and was completed within a year.
In addition to the Russian scenes, some Siberian scenes were shot down at various points in the province of Manitoba. Located 46 kilometers from Winnipeg in the Woodlands Rural Municipality, Marquette Municipality has served as a representative of the Siberian village. To make the scenes look more realistic, the workers transformed the marginalized Marquette community using Hollywood magic by placing a Russian advertising board and incorporating cars with Russian number plates on the set.
For the purpose of recording, the production team moved to other locations in Winnipeg. The Cooks Creek community in Springfield Rural Municipality has doubled as a movie studio. A few scenes of the thrilling crime movie were also shot in the Fort Garry residential area of Winnipeg.
Actors and staff were seen recording at The Fort Garry Hotel, Spa, and Conference Center at 222 Broadway in Fort Garry. Over the years, Manitoba has hosted numerous movie and television productions, including ‘Journey to the World,’ ‘Italian Work,’ and ‘Nobody’.
Since the movie was set in Siberia, it was appropriate for the crew to shoot some movie scenes in Russia, if not all. There are various Saint Petersburg shots filmed, including a scene shot at the Four Lions Bridge over the Griboedov Canal where Lucas meets an old friend. Therefore, workers had to spend a lot of time recording in Saint Petersburg in northwestern Russia.
In an interview with Salon, Matthew Ross pointed out that all employees had a great time recording in Russia. Add one or two things about the background used in the movie, the director said, “Sure, there was a background of what happened in the world. When you walk down the aisle near the hotel, there were cups with Trump and Putin’s faces together, which was weird.
