Netflix’s “The Noel Diary” Based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Richard Paul Evans, is a romantic comedy written and directed by Charles Shyer and follows a famous author named Jake Turner. He returns home to settle his mother’s estate after she dies.
While cleaning his childhood home for Christmas, a beautiful young woman named Rachel knocks on the door, looking for her birth mother. Soon, Jake stumbles upon a secret journal that contains answers to questions about his past, as well as Rachel’s.
To learn more about their past, the pair embark on a journey together to find what they are looking for this Christmas. While the narrative adheres to the elements of a conventional rom-com, it deviates from the typical Christmas movie by not letting the festival be the focal point. However, with the exciting locations set against the backdrop of the holiday season, one keeps thinking about the actual filming locations.
Where Was The Noel Diary Movie Filmed?
The Noel Diary was filmed in Connecticut and British Columbia, particularly in Fairfield County, Essex, Madison, Manchester, and Vancouver. Principal photography, starring Justin Hartley, reportedly began in May 2021 and wrapped up in late June of that year.
Connecticut
Most of the key sequences for “The Noel Diary” took place across Fairfield County, Connecticut’s most populous county. The area around the New Canaan Town Hall at 77 Main Street in New Canaan was used to depict the central area of Maple Falls. A few servings were also recorded on Forest Street in New Canaan.
Additionally, one of the first date scenes between Jake and Rachel was filmed at Remo’s at 35 Bedford Street in Stamford.
Jacob’s autograph signing scene at the beginning of The Noel Diary film was filmed at the Mechanics & Farmers Savings Bank on Main Street in Bridgeport. Scenes involving Jacob’s mother’s property were ostensibly filmed on private property on Washington Avenue in Westport.
Additionally, a private residence at 134 Center Street in Southport served as a pivotal production location. For some other key scenes, the crew camped out in Darien, Fairfield, and apparently Greenwich.

The production team also traveled to other parts of Connecticut for filming. While The Griswold Inn at 36 Main Street in Essex was transformed into a rustic Maple Falls Inn, Manchester Memorial Hospital at 71 Haynes Street in Manchester was suitably decorated for the holiday film, mainly its roof and parking lot.
The scene where Rachel buys her first book from Jacob was filmed at RJ Julia Booksellers at 768 Boston Post Road in Madison.
British Columbia
According to reports, the cast and crew of ‘The Noel Diary used the vast and diverse locations of Vancouver, the most populous city in British Columbia. Interestingly, the team started filming in the city but had to move to Connecticut due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

They later returned to Vancouver to shoot more scenes. Over the years, the city has hosted the production of various films and television shows.
