Netflix’s Slumberland, based on Winsor McCay’s comic book “Little Nemo in Slumberland”, is a fantasy adventure film directed by Francis Lawrence that revolves around a young girl named Nemo. She is sent to live with her caring but awkward uncle Philip after losing her father Peter on the high seas.
Nemo tries to fit in at a new school and has a hard time getting used to the new routine without her father. However, at night she sleeps in the real world but wakes up in Slumberland, a magical and fantastical world where she meets Flip, a lovable outlaw.
Together, Flip and Nemo go on an adventurous journey, going through dreams, nightmares, and reality, while she hopes to be with her father again. With impressive performances from a talented ensemble including Marlowe Barkley, Jason Momoa, and Chris O’Dowd, the gripping and sentimental narrative keeps the audience engaged. At the same time, colorful visuals and the fantastic land of Slumberland make one wonder where the magical film was filmed.
