“Devotion” Based on the 2015 book “Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice” by Adam Makos, is a biographical war film directed by J.D. Dillard, which takes place during the Korean War and gives us a glimpse into the friendship between two elite fighter pilots — Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner. Two naval officers work together and risk their lives during the war.
Due to their sacrifices, as they fought aerial battles against their enemies, Jesse and Tom earned enough respect to become two of the most respected and respected US Navy wingmen in history.
The biographical narrative embraces the theme of friendship and war, making it an interesting watch for different kinds of viewers. Meanwhile, aerial shots of fighter jets against the backdrop of various locations make one wonder where Devotion was actually filmed.
Where Was Devotion Movie Filmed?
Devotion movie was filmed in Georgia, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C., primarily in the Savannah metropolitan area, Atlanta, Bulloch County, Tybee Island, Charleston, and Wenatchee. According to reports, principal photography on the Jonathan Majors starrer began in early February 2021 with strict Covid-19 protocols in place and wrapped up in April of the same year.
Dillard used several real aircraft to create realistic and practical effects for the film, including various F4U Corsairs, two F8F Bearcat fighters, an AD Skyraider, an HO5S-1 helicopter, and a MiG-15. As for the interior scenes of Jesse and Tom piloting the Bearcat fighters, they were filmed in a Hawker Sea Fury with the rear seat converted to look like a Bearcat cockpit.
Georgia
Many key sequences for “Devotion” were filmed in the Savannah metropolitan area, which centers on the capital city of Savannah. The production team used various locations throughout the county, including the cities of Bloomingdale and Savannah, to shoot some key scenes for the film. Downtown Historic District streets also seemingly served as prominent filming locations.

During the later stages of filming, the cast and crew were spotted filming several important parts in Atlanta, Georgia’s capital and most populous city. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Atlanta is comprised of several unique and versatile landscapes, including lush greenery, rolling hills, and modern architecture, making it a suitable filming location for a variety of productions.
For filming purposes, the production team set up camp in Bulloch County, a county in the southeastern part of Georgia. Statesboro served as one of the main shooting locations. To be precise, they used the Statesboro-Bulloch County Airport at 601 Statesboro Airport Boulevard in Statesboro to shoot a significant number of parts for the film.
The cast and crew built the set on an active track that was temporarily disabled. Another runway was used to store and park equipment.

Additional rations for “Devotion” were also provided at Tybee Island, a city and barrier island just 11 miles east of Savannah. Some key beach scenes were recorded on location near 3rd Street. It is the most northeastern sea island of Georgia, where the US Air Force accidentally dropped an atomic bomb during a military exercise in 1958. So, given its history, it was a suitable location for the production of the film.
South Carolina
Several sequences for “Devotion” were reportedly shot in Charleston, South Carolina’s largest city. Also known as the Holy City, Charleston has hosted the production of several movies and TV shows over the years. Some of them are ‘Patriot’ ‘Notebook’, and ‘Righteous Gems’.
Washington
The cast and crew of Devotion also reportedly traveled to Wenatchee, the county seat and largest city of Washington’s Chelan County.
