Beast is a survival thriller that follows a recently widowed father Dr. Nate Samuels and his two young daughters, Meredith and Norah. After much planning, they decide to travel to a game preserve managed by their family friend and wildlife biologist Martin Battles. While they hope the trip will clear their minds and help them find peace, things suddenly take a wild and deadly turn.
Now, Nate and his daughters find themselves trapped in a fight for survival when a bloodthirsty, man-eating lion begins to hunt them down, killing anyone in its path. The narrative takes unexpected turns throughout and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats until the end. Moreover, the semi-arid jungle setting with wildlife all around will make you think of the real shooting locations of the movie “Beast”.
Where Was Beast Movie Filmed?
“Beast” was shot entirely in South Africa, specifically in Limpopo, Northern Cape, and Cape Town. Principal photography on the Idris Elba starrer began in early June 2021 and ended in August of the same year.
Since the story takes place in South Africa, it should come as no surprise that the film crew chose the beautiful country as the production location. This choice helped them add a touch of authenticity to the narrative and give viewers a much more immersive viewing experience.
Limpopo
Various key scenes for “Beast” were filmed in Limpopo, South Africa’s northernmost province. The cast and crew traveled to rural areas of the region to film various sequences on suitable sets. Limpopo worked as an ideal location for filming as it had areas that were ideal for showing the wildlife reserve owned by Martin and the surrounding areas.
In addition, it seems that the locals helped to make the production process in the province as smooth as possible.
Northern Cape
The ‘Beast’ team also camped in the Northern Cape, South Africa’s largest and most sparsely populated province. Similar to Limpopo, Idris Elba and the rest of the unit covered many rural areas in the province, including Upington, to get all the footage needed for the film.
Interestingly, for the scene where Dr. Nate is at the watering hole, they didn’t use a real watering hole so as not to disturb the animals. Instead, they created a fake set with water some trees, and rocks. In addition, the final scene of the film was shot in a province on the border with Namibia.
Cape Town
Several additional parts for “Beast” were filmed in Cape Town, the seat of South Africa’s parliament and one of the country’s three capitals. Due to its diverse and vast landscape and scenic beauty, the cast and crew chose Cape Town to shoot some of the exterior scenes for the thriller film.
