‘The Undeclared War is a British sci-fi thriller series that gives us a glimpse of what the near future might look like when it comes to the issue of cyber attacks. The story takes place in the year 2024 and revolves around a team of expert analysts working at the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ). When a country’s election system is hacked, everyone must work together to minimize the impact of the cyber attack.
Saara Parvan, a young student working in the malware department, faces a rather stressful first day at the office when a critical security breach is discovered. As a result, She and her associates find themselves in the middle of a cyber war with Russia that could have dangerous consequences.
The tense narrative of the consequences of cyber-attacks keeps viewers on the edge of their seats throughout each episode. At the same time, setting a dystopian near future with some interesting backdrops makes you think about the actual filming locations of the British series.
Where Was The Undeclared War Series Filmed?
“The Undeclared War” is filmed in England and Wales, mainly in Bristol, Barry, and Newport. Principal photography for the sci-fi series’ inaugural season reportedly began in May 2021 and wrapped up in August of that year.

Bristol
Many key sequences for “The Undeclared War” are filmed in Bristol, a city, a ceremonial county, and a unitary authority on the River Avon in England. Bristol Town Hall’s box office on College Green represents the offices of a Russian internet agency.
For the filming of the underground camp scenes in the first season, the production team set up the camp at Redcliffe Wharf and built an elaborate set on site with a collection of colorful shipping containers, tents, and flags.

A dramatic scene in season 1 where members of the public violently clash with officers in the street was filmed in East Street, Bristol. Reportedly, about 150-200 cast and crew members were involved in the filming of this particular scene. Additionally, Mayfield Park North in Fishponds and Gratitude Road in Greenbank serve as pivotal production locations for the series.”
Barry
Several parts of ‘The Undeclared War’ also take place in Barry, a town in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. The cast and crew of the show set up camp at various locations around the town, including Barry Island Beach Huts, Nells Point Car Park at Barry Island Pay and Display Car Park, and the Promenade.
The crew also used the east end of Whitmore Bay, the J-sub, Barry Rail Depot, and Hood Road to shoot some important sequences for the debut season.

Barry is located on the north shore of the Bristol Channel and is also considered a seaside resort with a number of attractions such as beaches and Barry Island Pleasure Park. Over the years, it has served as a major filming location for several movies and TV shows. Newport
Several other parts of “The Undeclared War” are also filmed in Newport, a city and county in Wales. Newport is situated on the River Usk and has been a port since the Middle Ages. Although the docks declined in the 20th century, they are still considered a prominent center for engineering and manufacturing.
