“Prey” is a sci-fi action film directed by Dan Trachtenberg that serves as a prequel to the first four films in the popular series. Set 300 years ago in the Comanche nation, the story follows a young and highly skilled warrior named Naru.
Having grown up in the shadow of some of the legendary hunters of the Great Plains, Naru draws on all her skills and experience when danger strikes her camp. To protect her people, she embarks on a mission to hunt prey that threatens the safety of everyone in her camp.
After being chased and finally coming face to face with the prey, Naru discovers that it is one of the highly evolved predators with a technologically advanced arsenal. The result is an epic battle and a climactic showdown between the two sides.
The action-packed narrative is complemented by great performances from a talented cast including Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Dane DiLiegro, and Stormee Kipp. In addition to the exciting story, you might be interested in the setting of the story and the interesting use of scenery throughout the film.
Where Was Prey Movie Filmed?
“Prey” was shot entirely in Alberta, specifically in Calgary, Rafter Six Ranch, and Stoney Nakoda First Nation. The crew’s original plan was to begin filming in May 2021. However, this was delayed and principal photography eventually began in June 2021 and ended in September of that year. The film’s production title was ‘Skulls’ before the film was titled ‘Prey’.
In an August 2022 interview with Screen Rant, the film’s producer Jhane Myers was asked about the most interesting thing happening in “Predator” in this day and age. He replied, “It was really exciting for me because it’s the first time the Predator is going up against [the fiercest] warriors in all of America before it was barely America.

It’s really exciting just to see your culture—the Comanche culture and the Comanche warriors—fighting the Predator.” Alberta is a western Canadian province that borders British Columbia to the west and is known for its natural beauty, fossil wealth, and several nature reserves. All of these features made it the perfect location to produce a movie like “Prey.”
Alberta
Several key sequences for “Prey” were shot in and around Calgary, a large city in the province of Alberta. It appears that the cast and crew of the sci-fi film traveled across the city and used its locations to film various sequences against suitable backdrops.
In addition to “Prey,” Calgary has served as a pivotal filming location for many other productions such as “Interstellar,” “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” “Joe Pickett” and “Under the Banner of Heaven.”

Other parts of the sci-fi film were shot in the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, which is located west of Calgary, right at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. In addition, Rafter Six Ranch also served as a prominent action movie location. It is a ranch in Exshaw, a village in the province of Alberta.
