Cam and Sam Munroe are a father and son duo who compete on the Talladega Short Track. Sam is a local racing legend who now supports his son’s racing in between dating divorcee Becca. Despite being a talented racer, Cam’s car does not race well due to poor financing. Sam’s long-time rival Linsky, frustrated at losing the race due to engine problems, offers Cam the chance to join his team with a new car.
Cam decides to leave his father and join Linksy as a chance to prove his worth and win races. “Trading Paint” was filmed entirely in Alabama, specifically in Eastaboga and Jefferson County. Filming of the John Travolta-starrer began in August 2017 and ended around mid-September of the same year. Several key parts of “Trading Paint” were recorded across Jefferson County, Alabama’s most populous county. The county town of Birmingham is one of the many locations that served as a filming location for the film.
Additionally, Harry & Billie’s Lounge at 1203 9th Avenue and Town & County Ford at 5041 Ford Parkway in Bessemer was used to film some scenes. The production unit also set up camp at Medical West Bessemer Health Center at 1700 4th Avenue North.

In addition, other parts of the sports drama film were filmed in Hueytown, a town near Bessemer in western Jefferson County. Key scenes were shot at First Oil Change Inc. at 2530 19th Street North in the city. In late August 2017, John Travolta and crew were spotted filming several important sequences at Archie’s Bar-B-Q & Burgers (formerly Golden Rule Bar-B-Q) at 1571 Montgomery Highway in Hoover.
According to reports, the scene where the restaurant manager inappropriately touches Cam’s wife was filmed at a barbecue restaurant.

Over the years, Jefferson County has served as a prominent filming location for various movies and television shows. Some notable ones that have used locations in the county are “A Perfect World,” “The Devil All Time,” “Heritage,” and “Looking for Alaska.”
To film most of the dirt road scenes, the production team traveled to Eastaboga, an unincorporated community located on the border of Talladega and Calhoun counties. Specifically, they used the grounds of the Talladega Short Track, an actual racetrack on Speedway Boulevard in Eastaboz.
