Nope is a 2022 American science fiction horror movie written, directed, and co-produced by Jordan Peele under the banner of Monkeypaw Productions. It stars Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun as residents of an isolated town who witness a mysterious and unusual event and attempt to capture video evidence of an unidentified flying object.
It takes place on an isolated ranch where the residents go through inexplicable and mysterious events. When siblings OJ and Emerald Haywood’s father, a rancher, die untimely and unexpectedly by a random object that falls from the sky, they decide to get to the bottom of the mysterious event. With the help of technology businessman Angel Torres and documentarian Antlers Holst, he tries to capture an unidentified flying object on camera.
With this, the siblings want to better understand the mystery and at the same time assert themselves. The tense and suspenseful narrative is tempered by throwing in a few comedic elements here and there. In addition to the interesting premise, the abandoned ranch setting must have made you wonder about the actual production locations of the mystery “Nope” film.
Where Was Nope Movie Filmed?
“Nope” was shot entirely in California, specifically Los Angeles County. Principal photography on the sci-fi film began in June 2021 and seemingly wrapped up in July of that year. California, also known as the Golden State, is located in the western United States.
Over the years, the state has made some valuable contributions in a wide range of fields such as communication, innovation, popular culture, entertainment, economics and politics to name a few. Now let’s take a look at all the specific locations that are used to make Daniel Kaluuya’s star, while keeping an eye out for some anomalies in the sky!
California
All key sequences of ‘Nope’ were shot in Los Angeles County, the most populous county in California and the entire country. The production team has reportedly begun filming in Santa Clarita, a city in northwest Los Angeles County.
In addition to showing several interiors and exteriors around town, they moved further east and set up camp at an actual ranch called Firestone Ranch at 35100 Anthony Road in Agua Dulce, a census-designated place.

This real ranch doubled for the fictional Haywood Ranch in the sci-fi Nope movie. It was reportedly easier for the production team to transform the space into the film’s fictional ranch and shoot most of the key sequences with suitable backdrops.
Several other parts of the thriller film were shot in Los Angeles, a large city in Southern California. Known for its upscale neighborhoods, gorgeous beaches, and sprawling downtown, it’s no wonder why the cast and crew used the setting to film some scenes.
Officially known as the County of Los Angeles, it is considered home to more than a quarter of California’s population, making it one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the country.
The county consists of several popular tourist attractions such as the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Griffith Park, Venice Beach, RMS Queen Mary, and Mount Wilson Observatory to name a few.
