Netflix’s “Alice in Borderland” Based on the manga series of the same name by Haro Aso, is a Japanese sci-fi thriller that follows a hapless man named Arisu and his 2 friends who find themselves trapped in an abandoned parallel dimension version of Tokyo.
In order to survive and get back to the real world, they must participate in a series of deadly games decided by playing cards. As players try to survive the games, each player receives visas that get longer the more sadistic survival games they play.
However, if a player stops competing, their visa expires, and then that player is executed by red lasers shot from the sky. While the suspenseful narrative keeps viewers on the edge of their seats every episode, the setting of a parallel dimension against the backdrop of another version of Japan is sure to make you wonder where “Alice in Borderland” is filmed.
Where Was Alice in Borderland Season 2 Series Filmed?
“Alice in Borderland” was filmed exclusively in Japan, particularly in the Kanto, Kansai, Chūbu, and Fukuoka regions. According to reports, filming for the first iteration of the thriller series began in August 2019 and wrapped up in December 2019.
Additionally, principal photography for the second installment is said to have begun in late 2021 or early 2022 and is said to wrap up in late March 2022.
Japan
Many key sequences for “Alice in Borderland” take place in the Kanto region, the geographic region of Japan’s largest island, Honshu. Within the region, the Greater Tokyo area serves as one of the series’ primary production locations.
Several locations, including Toshimaen in Nerima (permanently closed in 2020), Odaiba, Kabukicho, Rainbow Bridge, and the Dōgenzaka district, around Shibuya Mark City, in Shibuya, feature in various scenes of the engaging series.

The filming unit uses the Ashikaga Scramble Studio at 284-5 Yobecho, Ashikaga in Tochigi to record some key scenes for the show. It was in this studio that they built various areas of Shibuya station, including the toilet, the gate, and even the road, for the first season. According to reports, everything other than that was done with CGI.
Additionally, to keep the scene authentic, the visual effects director even created a shadow of the Tokyo Building that falls on the actual location.
The film studio reportedly served as a pivotal filming location for the second season as well. It is an open set of the Shibuya scramble intersection with an area of 6,585 square meters used for filming purposes.

Interestingly, the scene in the pilot episode where the protagonists enter the station’s bathroom only to come out to find themselves in an abandoned Tokyo was actually shot in four minutes of continuous footage. In addition, several parts of the show are also filmed in front of Yokohama’s local store Fukutomi-Cho, Kawasaki, and Kawaguchi.
Other parts of “Alice in Borderland” are also filmed in the Kansai region or the Kinki region, which is another of the regions on the Japanese island of Honshu. The pool party scene in season 1 was reportedly recorded at a hotel in Shiga’s Otsu City.

In September 2019, cast and crew members were spotted screening several key scenes for the opening season in and around the 4-2 Koeidai, Kita-Ku, Kobe-shi apartment complex in Hyogo right in front of Kita-Suzurandai Station. on the Shintetsu Arima line.
