Netflix’s ‘Troll’ Written and directed by Roar Uthaug, is a Norwegian fantasy thriller that centers on a monstrous and gigantic creature that awakens due to an explosion in the middle of the mountains after being captured and imprisoned for over a thousand years.
After reviving the creature, officials turn to a brave and determined paleontologist to minimize the damage caused by the gigantic troll. However, all of the creature’s efforts seem to enrage the creature further as it heads towards the city, destroying everything in its path.
While the destruction left behind by the troll keeps us on the edge of our seats, impressive performances by Ina Marie Wilmann, Kim Falck, Mads Sjøgård Pettersen, and Gard B. Eidsvold give us hope that their characters can defeat the monster and save their town. In addition, the picturesque locations of the mountains and the cityscape make one wonder where “Troll” was actually filmed.
Where Was Troll Movie Filmed?
The “Troll” movie was filmed exclusively in Norway, particularly in Oslo, Lom, Askim, and probably Romsdalshornet. The main photography for the Roar Uthaug directorial began in late August 2021 and ended in November of that year.
Since the story is set in Norway, the film crew decided to shoot the film in the Nordic country itself to give the audience a more immersive viewing experience.
Norway
Many key sequences for “The Movie” were shot in and around Oslo, Norway’s capital and most populous city. From the looks of it, the production team seemingly used different locations in the city to film different scenes against suitable backdrops. The Ekeberg district in Oslo served as one of the main filming locations for the action film.

Located at the northernmost end of the Oslofjord, Oslo has previously featured in many movies and TV shows besides “Troll.” Some of the notable ones are “The Worst Man in the World,” “No Time to Die,” The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, “Pieces of a Woman,” ‘Home for Christmas’ and ‘Lilyhammer’.
For filming purposes, the ‘Troll’ crew also traveled to several other locations in Norway. The village of Lom in Innlandet County, Norway, the town of Askim in Viken County, and Rena Leir in Åmot in Hedmark County were some of the prominent production locations used for the film.
As for the mountain scenes, most of them seem to have been filmed around the Romsdalshornet mountain, which is located in the municipality of Rauma in the county of Møre og Romsdal.
