Hellhole or Ostatnia wieczerza is directed by Bartosz M. Kowalski, who also wrote the screenplay with Mirella Zaradkiewicz. These are also the two people behind the horror comedy No One Sleeps in the Woods Tonight. While those films focus on the fun side of gore and indestructible villains, this one is a very different beast.
This new Netflix horror film focuses on horror in a dark and dramatic sense that shows the horrors of human nature.
You should also know that the Polish name Ostatnia wieczerza translates to “The Last Supper”. Since this is an exorcism movie, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. But what dinner at Hellhole consists of just might.
As an added bonus, Hellhole’s international (and English) name is also much more accurate than you might imagine! The only reason our rating isn’t higher is that the first half is a bit too slow, but that doesn’t detract from the overall experience.
The hellhole begins when police officer Marek goes to the monastery and pretends to be a priest preparing for an exorcism. When Marek enters the monastery, he learns about the mysterious way the clergy work. It doesn’t take long for him to know something is wrong there as he begins to investigate.
Only the clergy won’t let one nosy policeman take away their rituals. As Marek gets deeper into the case, he begins to discover the disturbing truth about the clergy and what they have been hiding.
