‘Cyrano’ is a romantic drama centered on a comedian named Cyrano who feels that his looks are not worthy of the love of his bright friend Roxanne. Therefore, Cyrano helps a young Christian man to keep her secret by pouring out his heart in love letters, which he writes in the name of Christianity. What makes the situation worse is that Cyrano has not yet expressed his feelings for Roxanne, who fell in love with Christian when he first met her.
This musical drama movie includes stellar performances from the likes of Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. It is based on Schmidt’s 2018 stage music of the same name, which itself is based on 1897 play ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’ written. by Edmond Rostand. In order to do justice to the film’s ancient origins, the director had to choose something spectacular and theatrical as the location of the film.
Where Was Cyrano Movie Filmed?
Although the original story of Cyrano and Roxanne is set in 1640 in France, director Joe Wright and Sarah Greenwood wanted ‘Cyrano’ to be introduced to the most beautiful European country in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
Therefore, they decided to record this music on the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea – Sicily, Italy. Greenwood told a Hollywood reporter, “The palette came out of where we were [in Noto],” remembering the “beautiful stone that changes light.”
Major photography began around October 2020, when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out in Italy. Sicily was used as a major recording site for many movies in the past, such as ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Aquaman’.

The famous Noto Cathedral and the royal castle were used as the backdrop for a few scenes, especially when Cyrano met Roxanne. In addition, a team of photographers was also seen filming certain scenes at the Palazzo Castelluccio in the Via Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour.
The Church of Montevergine, a Catholic Baroque-style church in the Via Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour, was also used as a shooting range, making it the ideal backdrop for various movie episodes.
Known for its ancient ruins, Syracuse was a perfect city on the island of Sicily for shooting many musical drama scenes. One of the places in this historic city has served as a recording studio for Castello Maniace, a famous castle and castle at the Via Castello Maniace.

A few scenes were also shot in Ortygia, also known as Citta Vecchia, home to many of the world’s most famous landmarks. Joe Wright has chosen this prestigious venue to capture some of the most important movie scenes.
The figurative and historic Saint Matthew Church, also known as Chiesa di San Matteo, was used as the backyard for a few scenes, and production on the site took place in December 2020.

The cast and crew of the movie were also spotted filming at Palazzo Biscari, a private monument in the port city of Catania in the eastern part of Sicily. According to reports, an independent palace at Via Museo Biscari hosted a two-day film production by the end of 2020.
The group has chosen Mount Etna as the background for filming the stunning and climax scenes of the film, which appears to be one of a series of shooting challenges, as revealed by the cinematographer, Seamus McGarvey.
