‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ was recorded in countless locations, including Pennsylvania, California, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Georgia, and Florida, among others. The main photography took place on May 3, 2008, and ended on November 2, 2008.
Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania serves as one of the most important filmmaking centers. The team started filming there on June 2, 2008, and finished two days later on June 4. One of the most notable action sequences took place in the Bethlehem Steel area of Bethlehem, which is hosting some parts of Shanghai.
On June 9, 2008, workers entered Philadelphia using the now-defunct PECO Richmond power station. They also shot at the Eastern State Penitentiary, Free Library of Philadelphia, Laurel Hill Cemetery, Drexel University, Philadelphia City Hall, Rittenhouse Square, Delaware Generating Station, Fairmount Park, Historic Chancellor Street, and Wanamaker’s.
One of the scenes was recorded at the University of Pennsylvania in a section best known as “The Castle.” However, the university did not allow producers to use the term for ethical reasons.
California
A few scenes were shot in California, mostly house clips. Most of them were recorded at the former headquarters of Hughes Aircraft Co. Playa Vista. The audio channels established there in Culver City were for movie production. Director Bay had to persuade the Egyptian government, especially Zahi Hawass – an Egyptian scholar and former State Minister of Foreign Affairs, to allow him to record in the towers. However, he formed a good relationship with Bay and allowed production to continue.
