The star-studded cast includes Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Tony Collet, Willem Daffo, Rooney Mara, and more. The Carnivalsk story unfolds in kitsch in the Midwest, while the second half of the story transports viewers to noir-tied Chicago. Nightmare Alley.
Where Was Nightmare Alley Movie Filmed?
‘Nightmare Alley was filmed in locations in the US and Canada, particularly in Ontario and upstate New York. Principal photography began in January 2020 but was temporarily relocated to New York.
Production ceased in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Production resumed in September 2020 and was fully completed by December 2020.
Ontario
Much of the Nightmare Alley movie was shot in and around Toronto, in the sky-high Canadian metropolis on the northwest shores of Lake Ontario. Although the city pictured is thought to be Chicago, much of it was filmed in Toronto. In one memorable scene in the movie, Stan Carlisle walks into Ritter’s office.

Sequence RC. Pictured at the Harris Water Treatment Plant, a water treatment plant operating on 2701 Queen Street East in Toronto. The Stanton Exhibition takes place at College Park, a shopping mall located at 444 Yonge Street downtown. Scenes were also filmed in the Greater Toronto area.

Some of the scenes in this venture were shot in the picturesque port city of Hamilton, Ontario. One side of the city offers a panoramic view of Lake Ontario, while the other side features the forested peak of the Niagara Escorts. However, Del Toro was not the first movie to tour the city. From Barry Levinson’s Man of the Year to Thomas Kyle’s adaptation of the musical Hamilton, many films have chosen the city.
New York
Del Toro is reportedly looking for a city with an unknown setting, but it will be interesting to onlookers. After an initial shoot in Toronto, Del Toro returned to Buffalo, the second-largest city in the NY state. They filmed in late winter, but the director’s signature had to artificially create snow, much to the disappointment of the production team.

Buffalo City Hall, the administrative center for exhibiting Art Deco architecture at 65 Niagara Square, was painted on the inside and outside. The square also appeared in the picture. Niagara Square is the old public square at Courthouse, Genesis Street, Delaware Avenue, and Niagara Street Crossing. Staff filmed the scenes on the premises of The Carpels Manuscript Library Museum near the city’s Symphony Circle, a haven for history buffs.

Walter J. 65 Court Street Mahoney State Office Building and Michael J. Scenes were also filmed in other historic buildings, such as the Dillon Memorial United States Courthouse. Prior to that, structures such as ‘A Quiet Place II’ and ‘***** Bus’ toured the city. Nightmare Alley.
