Netflix’s “The Wonder” Based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Emma Donoghue, is a period drama film co-starring and directed by Sebastián Lelio. Set in the early 1860s, the story follows an 11-year-old girl named Anna O’Donnell who stops eating but remains alive months later.
To get a better perspective on this miraculous case, English nurse Lib Wright is sent to the isolated village to keep a close eye on Anna. Along with her, several tourists and pilgrims gather around to catch a glimpse of the girl who is said to survive on manna from heaven.
However, as Lib spends more time in the village with Anna, some sinister and dark secrets are revealed. The psychological thriller features stellar performances from a talented cast, including Florence Pugh, Tom Burke, Kíla Lord Cassidy, and Elaine Cassidy, who enhance the narrative and keep viewers engaged. At the same time, the period environment with open green fields in the background makes one wonder where ‘The Wonder’ was filmed.
Where Was The Wonder Movie Filmed?
“The Wonder” movie was shot completely in Ireland, mainly in Dublin and County Wicklow. According to reports, the main photography for the drama film began in August 2021 and seemingly wrapped up in late September of that year.
Drastic weather changes in Ireland and complicated terrain made the production quite difficult, yet Florence Pugh was challenged by the animal co-stars on set.

Additional parts for ‘The Wonder’ were filmed in County Wicklow, Ireland’s 15th largest county by population. During the early stages of filming, the cast and crew were spotted filming important sequences in and around Hollywood, a village in the west of County Wicklow.
The presence of several green and open fields creates a suitable location for shooting a film like ‘The Wonder’.
