Hoddesdon Studios in Hertfordshire was the most important filming location for Silo Season 3.

The facility was particularly suitable for Silo because of its enormous interior spaces.

The Enfield studios gave the production additional space for large-scale sets and controlled filming. For a series as technically complicated as Silo, having multiple studio facilities is essential.
Different sets can be built simultaneously, allowing the production team to move between sequences without constantly dismantling and reconstructing environments. The council received £77,440 from the production company for use of the location. The location is particularly significant because Season 3 introduces a storyline set centuries before Juliette’s era.
The “Before Times” storyline follows journalist Helen Drew and Congressman Daniel Keene as they investigate events that ultimately connect to the creation of the silos. County Hall’s formal architecture therefore provided a convincing environment for political and governmental scenes.
Instead of constructing every government interior from scratch, the filmmakers could use an existing civic building and transform it through production design, costumes, lighting and set dressing.
Home Farm, Swale, Kent
One of the Season’s Most Unexpected Locations
Season 3 also traveled farther south to Home Farm in Swale, Kent.
The Kent Film Office officially lists Silo – Season 3 among productions filmed at the property. According to the Film Office, production used Home Farm’s kitchen and surrounding fields for scenes in the series. Home Farm is a colonial-style weatherboarded property with verandas overlooking the surrounding countryside.
That makes it very different from the claustrophobic silo interiors. Its rural appearance was ideal for scenes requiring an ordinary domestic or countryside environment. The Kent Film Office specifically confirms that production visited the property for Season 3 and filmed both inside the house and around the surrounding fields.
This location is particularly interesting because Season 3 explores the world before the silos became humanity’s refuge.
Hertfordshire and the English Countryside
Beyond individual named buildings and studios, Hertfordshire served as an important overall production area. The region has become a major filmmaking hub because it offers studios, historic buildings, countryside and locations close to London.
For Silo, that combination was extremely useful. The production could film a massive underground set in a studio in the morning and shoot an outdoor sequence in the countryside without relocating the production to another country. The result is a fictional world that feels much larger than the geographical footprint of the actual production.
Why Was Silo Season 3 Filmed in England?
One reason is that England already had an established production infrastructure for the series. The original season was filmed at Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, and later seasons continued using the same facilities and sets. Season 2 also used Hoddesdon Studios, making it practical for the production to return for Season 3.
