Stuart Fails to Save the Universe takes the familiar world of The Big Bang Theory and sends it into a completely different direction. Instead of remaining a traditional sitcom, the new HBO Max series combines science fiction, fantasy, comedy and multiverse adventure, following comic-book-store owner Stuart Bloom after he accidentally causes a multiverse catastrophe.
Kevin Sussman returns as Stuart, joined by Lauren Lapkus as Denise, Brian Posehn as Bert Kibbler and John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke. Created by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn and Bill Prady, the series follows the group as they jump between alternate realities while attempting to repair the damage caused by a quantum device. The open desert provides a completely different visual environment from the interiors of the comic-book store or the streets of Pasadena. It can easily become an alien planet, post-apocalyptic landscape or alternate Earth with the right production design.
The Santa Clarita area is also a long-established filming region, with numerous ranches, deserts and natural landscapes available to productions.
Caltech and Pasadena-Inspired Locations
The show’s story remains connected to the scientific world established by The Big Bang Theory, so locations associated with Pasadena and Caltech also remain important to the series’ visual language.
