The filmmakers essentially created a version of New York using British locations.
And one location in particular became extremely important.
Glasgow, Scotland
Glasgow served as one of the movie’s most important New York stand-ins.
Central Glasgow was transformed into parts of Manhattan and Queens through production design, set dressing and visual effects.
Streets including Bothwell Street, St Vincent Street, Wilson Street and Hutcheson Street were used for major sequences.
Some of the movie’s action scenes are particularly interesting because viewers may recognize real Glasgow buildings underneath the New York transformation.
For example, the production used streets around central Glasgow for a major sequence involving a hijacked vehicle and Spider-Man.
The filmmakers altered storefronts, road markings and other visual details so that Glasgow could convincingly resemble New York.
This isn’t the first time Glasgow has doubled for an American city, but Brand New Day takes the transformation to another level.
Why Glasgow?
Glasgow offers several advantages for large-scale filmmaking.
The city has wide streets, historic buildings, modern architecture and distinctive urban blocks that can be modified relatively easily.
It also allows filmmakers to control locations more effectively than they might in the middle of Manhattan.
Tom Holland explained that filming in the UK made it easier to capture the energy of New York without dealing with all the unpredictability of filming directly in Manhattan.

Another major production location was Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

Another important location was Basingstoke in Hampshire.
Production used Fanum House, an office building in the town, as one of the locations representing the Department of Damage Control’s Westside Branch.
This is a good example of how Brand New Day uses ordinary real-world buildings and transforms them into locations within the MCU.
Viewers watching the finished movie may have no idea that the building is actually located in Hampshire rather than New York.
Surrey and Brookwood Military Cemetery
The production also filmed at Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey.
The cemetery became another significant UK filming location, with cast members including Tom Holland and Zendaya reportedly seen there during production.
A cemetery location is especially interesting for a Spider-Man movie because Peter Parker’s story has always been connected with grief, loss and memories of the people he couldn’t save.
After No Way Home, Peter’s emotional isolation is even stronger.
He has lost his connection with the people who once knew him.
Locations involving death and remembrance therefore fit naturally with the emotional side of his character.

Production also used locations around London and England, combining practical locations with studio work.

Why Was Spider-Man: Brand New Day Filmed in the UK?
The obvious question is: why would a Spider-Man movie set in New York be filmed primarily in Britain?
The biggest reason is production practicality.
New York City is incredibly busy.
Filming a major Marvel action sequence can require closing streets, controlling crowds, coordinating stunt teams and managing enormous amounts of equipment.
The UK offers filmmakers greater flexibility.
Tom Holland specifically discussed the advantages of filming in London compared with New York, including the ability to capture the city’s energy without dealing with some of the logistical difficulties of Manhattan production.
