‘Missing’ A standalone sequel to the 2018 film ‘Searching’ directed by Aneesh Chaganty, is a mystery thriller written and directed by Nick Johnson and Will Merrick. It revolves around June Ellen, a teenager who has the house to herself when her mother goes on vacation with her new boyfriend.
She made the most of the situation, throws a house party, invites all her friends and everyone has a great time. However, when her mother doesn’t return after the holidays, June calls and texts her but gets no response from the other end.
With the authorities not helping much, a teenager decides to use all the latest technology to search for her missing mother. As she gets deeper into the investigation, June is shocked to stumble upon dark secrets about her mother. The tension and suspense aspects of the narrative work well together to hold the audience’s attention right from the start. At the same time, June uses technology to connect to another country thousands of kilometers away to get to the truth. So it’s natural to wonder where the movie “Missing” was filmed.
Where Was Missing Movie Filmed?
Missing was shot in California and Colombia, mainly in Los Angeles and Cartagena. According to reports, principal photography for the lead role of Storm Reid began in late March 2021 under the working title ‘Searching 2’ and ended in May of the same year.
Since the story takes place in California (where June and her mother live) and Colombia (where June’s mother goes on vacation with her boyfriend), the filmmakers decided to shoot the film on location to give viewers an immersive and authentic viewing experience.
California
The production team of “Missing” primarily camped out in Los Angeles, California’s largest city, to shoot most of the interior scenes, including June’s house, from where she leads the search for her mother. They also seem to have traveled across the city to score some exterior shots against suitable backdrops. Additionally, we cannot rule out the possibility that they used the facilities of one of the many film studios in and around Los Angeles.

Also known as The Entertainment Capital of the World, Los Angeles is known for its ties to the entertainment industry as it is home to the film studios of some prominent production companies. This is why it is one of the most popular filming locations for many filmmakers. Over the years, the city has been featured in several movies and TV shows, including “The Gray Man,” “Don’t Worry Darling,” “Emily the Criminal,” and “True Detective.”
Colombia
A significant portion of “Missing” was also broadcast in Cartagena, or Cartagena de Indias, a city on the northern coast of Colombia that also serves as one of the important ports of the Caribbean coast region. During the later stages of production, cast and crew members were apparently spotted recording several key sequences around the Arte Getsemani Galery in Cl. de San Juan #25-122 in Gethsemane.
