Amazon Prime’s “The Rig” Created by David Macpherson, is a mystery thriller series that follows the crew of the Kinloch Bravo, a Scottish oil rig located in complete isolation in the North Sea, miles off the Scottish coast.
After completing the assigned operation on the platform, the crew prepares to return to land. However, their departure is stopped by the sudden arrival of a mysterious and dense fog that takes over the place and cuts off all kinds of connections with the outside world.
Now that the crew is stuck on a platform that is receiving severe shocks, they are trying to get to the bottom of the mysterious force. Meanwhile, when a massive accident occurs on the platform, their loyalty and endurance are tested to the limit. Suspenseful elements keep viewers engrossed in the supernatural series, and the isolated location of the fictional oil rig begs the question of where “The Rig” actually takes place.
Where Was The Rig Series Filmed?
The Rig is filmed in Scotland, particularly in Edinburgh. According to reports, principal photography for the debut season starring Iain Glen began in late March 2021 and seemingly wrapped up in late July or early August of that year.

The film studio is a self-contained 8.5-acre facility with two floors of production offices, plenty of parking, approximately 35,000 square feet of workshop space, and massive space for additional office/art/costume shops. All these advantages make it a suitable filming location for all productions, including The Rig.

In addition, several key sequences for the thriller series are shot on a real oil rig, which is said to be located on the east coast of Scotland. It perfectly represents the Kinloch Bravo oil rig at the show. In an interview with BT TV in December 2022, several cast members opened up about the complications they faced while filming Season 1. First, actor Martin Compston caught fire while filming a stunt scene.
