Netflix’s “The Kings of the World” or “Los Reyes del Mundo” is a Colombian adventure drama written and directed by Laura Mora Ortega. It revolves around five street teenagers – Rá, Culebro, Sere, Winny, and Nano – who no longer have a family.
They have no one but themselves, they form a clan to survive and start living without laws. When five boys leave town and venture deep into the Colombian jungle in hopes of claiming Ra’s inherited land, their friendship and loyalty are tested.
During their quest, the teenagers find many friends along the way who help them on their journey but also make them aware of the dangers of their society. While the wild and lonely clan’s journey to claim the Promised Land makes for a dramatic and captivating watch, the various locations they find themselves in will surely make you wonder where the ‘The Kings of the World’ were shooting.
Where Was The Kings of the World Movie Filmed?
“The Kings of the World” was filmed completely in Colombia, mainly in Antioquia and Córdoba. Principal photography on the adventure film was supposed to begin in the summer of 2021, but due to positive cases of Covid-19, filming was halted for about a week.
After about eight weeks of filming, it finally wrapped in September of that year.
Colombia
Most of the key sequences for “The Kings of the World” took place in Antioquia, one of Colombia’s 32 departments. The filming unit reportedly used the locations of several villages and mountainous terrains within the department. Medellín, the capital of Antioquia and the country’s second-largest city, served as one of the main production locations for the dramatic film.

Several key scenes were filmed under the Avenida Oriental bridges in Medellín, as well as in the basement of the Medellín metro station in the Bolivar sector. In addition, the production team camped in Bajo Cauca Antioquia, a subregion in the Antioquia department. In an interview with Variety in December 2022, director Laura Mora revealed some details about filming in the Bajo Cauca region.
She said: “I was warned not to shoot there, that it was the most dangerous part of Colombia.” Instead, we only encountered people who were open, generous, and kind.”

Mora added: “Making a fictional film also protected us because they probably wouldn’t be as welcome by documentarians or journalists.” To smooth things out even more, they ensured the involvement of various communities wherever they stopped, such as a gypsy caravan in various villages and towns. The cast and crew were spotted filming several parts in and around the Nechi River during filming. In addition, some municipalities of northern Antioquia seem to appear in the film.
For filming purposes, the team of ‘The Kings of the World’ also traveled to Córdoba, a Colombian department located in the Caribbean region in the northern part of the country. Specifically, the town of La Apartada served as an important filming location for the adventure drama.
