“Weird: The Al Yankovic Story ” is loosely inspired by the title singer’s real life. Directed by Eric Appel, the biographical drama follows the life of Weird Al from his childhood to his rise to fame after rewriting songs for a parody. In 2010, a fake trailer made the rounds that made fans wonder about the biopic.
After the success of various music biopics, Weird Al decided to team up with Eric Appel to create this cutting-edge parody of musician biopics. The film fictionalizes many aspects of his life from his romance with Madonna to his downfall amid drugs and alcohol.
Where Was Weird: The Al Yankovic Story Movie Filmed?
“Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” film was filmed particularly planned in Atlanta. But when Roku came on board as a production house, it gave the film enough budget to shoot in Los Angeles, California. The main filming was planned with cost in mind. Appel and Yankovic began writing the film in January 2022.
According to reports, Roku’s contract only gave the filmmakers 18 days to shoot the feature film. This was done in order to reduce costs and also due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Filming began on February 10, 2022, and ended on March 8 of the same year.

During filming, Weird Al Yankovic was reportedly present most days on set and guided the cast and crew throughout. Post-production took place while the singer was on tour, but he still remained virtually connected to the team.

The sprawling city of Los Angeles, California is a very popular location for filming movies and TV shows. From the romantic musical “La La Land” to the prequel fantasy thriller “House of the Dragon” this scenic location has been filmed. Plus, it’s home to the Hollywood district AKA Tinseltown. It is therefore no surprise that the production team shot the film there.
Speaking to Screenrant, Radcliffe expressed his enthusiasm for the venture. He described the film as an “incredibly fast shoot”, as 18 days is a relatively short time to complete a film. The actor went on to mention how he doesn’t quite know how the crew managed to pull off this feat. The making of the biopic is said to be as unique as Al himself.

Although filming locations were limited, the biopic features a wide variety of scenes featuring him in concert and in the house he allegedly owns. Although the schedule was cut short, the cast and crew certainly had a lot of fun on set.
