Directed by Chinonye Chukwu, ‘Till’ is a true-life biographical drama set in the 1950s and revolves around Mamie Till, an activist and educator, and her quest for justice in the lynching of her 14-year-old son. named Emmett Till.
When a teenager visits his cousins to spend some fun time with them, little does his mother know that he won’t be coming back to her. Emmett is lynched by white supremacists for allegedly whistling at a white woman named Carolyn Bryant, whereupon Mamie, as a mother and activist, raises her voice against the injustice.
A grieving mother insists on giving her son an open-casket funeral so the world will know what happened to him. Told entirely from Mamie’s point of view, the film sheds light on some relevant topics such as racism that still exist in society, making them both interesting and important.
