Netflix’s “Entrapped” developed by Baltasar Kormákur, is an Icelandic mystery thriller Tv series that serves as the third season of “Trapped” or “Ófærð”. It follows Andri Ólafsson, the chief of police in a remote Icelandic town, and policewoman Hinrika as they try to get to the bottom of the case of the murder of a cult member. The duo soon discovers that the case is related to a biker gang’s land dispute and the disappearance of a woman in 2013.
In addition to the exciting and mysterious narrative, the use of interesting locations, such as the picturesque backdrop of the mountains and the ocean, attracts the attention of the audience. Not only that, but the eerie landscape of the cave also adds to the overall atmosphere of the thriller series. So it’s only natural that you’re curious about the filming locations and know all about them.
Entrapped Tv Series Filming Locations
Entrapped is filmed entirely in Iceland, specifically in Siglufjörður, Seyðisfjörður, Hafnarfjörður, Reykjavík, and Egilsstaðir. Principal photography for the initial iteration reportedly began in early September 2021 under strict Covid-19 regulations and seemingly finished in fall 2021.
Now let’s follow Andri and Hinrika as they try to solve the mystery and learn all about the specific locations featured in the Entrapped series!
Most of “Entrapped” takes place in Siglufjörður, a small fishing town on the north coast of Iceland. The cast and crew of the show reportedly camped out at the Siglufjörður pool at Hvanneyrarbraut 52 to record some key sequences for the debut season.
Several key scenes for “Entrapped” are also filmed in and around Hafnarfjörður, a port city, and municipality in Iceland. The filming unit of the Netflix series is said to be traveling around the city, recording various sequences against suitable backdrops. Hafnarfjörður consists of many historic buildings, including Pakkhúsið, Hafnarfjarðarkirkja, and St. Josef, to name at least a few.
The production team is traveling to several other locations throughout Iceland to film the remaining parts of Entrapped. The towns of Seyðisfjörður and Egilsstaðir in the municipality of Múlaþing in eastern Iceland serve as prominent filming locations for the mystery series. In addition, the team uses the center of the capital Reykjavík and the nearby Hvammsvík hot springs to shoot several essential scenes.
In an interview with Nordic Watchlist at the beginning of September 2022, Maria Thelma (Elísabet) was asked about the filming locations of the series and her experience of recording on location. She said: “It was stunningly beautiful, to say the least. That’s the thing about shooting in Iceland – every view has its own breathtaking scenery in your film, so we’re blessed to have the landscape as our ‘office’ for the day.”
“We were lucky to shoot in different locations around Iceland, which made the filming process more adventurous. We mostly shot in Siglufjörður, Reykjavík and Hvammsvík. We shot in the coldest period in Iceland, autumn/winter, so it was pretty cold most of the time, which is nothing new when it comes to Icelandic filmmaking…,” she added.
