Her grandmother is rumored to be a famous witch, and through a series of accidents, Amaia is believed to have inherited the same. Whether or not this is a forgery is up for debate. However, the magic of the series is sorely lacking. Now, know about You’re Nothing Special Season 1.
You’re Nothing Special Season 1: Synopsis
Amaia moved with her sister and mother from Barcelona to her grandmother’s city. The move came after her mother separated from their adoptive father and lost her job. One of her old friends helped her get a job at a bakery in town and she moved the whole family there. Amaia performs and often makes it clear that she is not happy about it. Although she seems to love and respect her adoptive father Moussa, she does not know who her father is and there is friction between her and her mother.
In fact, after a little investigation, she finds out that her mother dated a famous photographer named Jovi in high school. She assumes that must mean he is her father. However, her mother later revealed that while they were lovers, they broke up when Jovi needed to go abroad and that he is not Ama’s father. Devastated, Amaia focuses her energy elsewhere.
She clearly does not like the growing relationship between the mother and the teacher, as she fears that it would mean that their stay in town would be extended if their relationship became serious. Because of this, she refuses to receive him and is often rude when he comes to visit. One day, while helping her mother clean the land, she finds a letter written in 2004 in which a guy breaks up with her mother. When Amaia notices the date, she suspects it might be her father.
She notes his name – Bernardo – and goes to find him. He turns out to be the owner of a music store and is old enough to be her grandfather. He has been married for over 30 years, which means that if he is Amaia’s father, it was because of an extramarital affair, and that is the fact that her mother protected her from. Amaia takes time to come to terms with this and eventually reconciles with her mother, but without telling her that she knows the truth about her origins.
Over the course of the first season of “You’re Nothing Special,” we realized that Amaia isn’t just a bratty teenager who thinks she carries the weight of the world on her shoulders. He is someone who has a desperate need to be liked by everyone and cannot think outside of himself. This is the exact reason that causes chaos in her life and the lives of everyone around her.
The first or second day of school with friends – Javi, Lucia, and Zhao. She also falls in love with Asier, but unfortunately, he already has a girlfriend, Irene. She learns through rumors that her grandmother was known as the town witch and had clients all over the country. As something fun, the group decides to try one of her spells. Javi joins in with a suggestion.
He had been bullied all his life by a boy named Fran Chivite who wanted him to feel the same helplessness and fear as he did. The group cast the spell without thinking anything about it and head out to the party. But they learn that Chivite had an accident. Everyone is freaked out and wondering if magic had something to do with it.
The next day, their classmate Jokin asks Amaie if her mother can do magic like her grandmother. Amaia tells him on impulse that she can do it. He asks her for a love spell. He wants to get back together with his ex-Rori. Amaia lets him know that it is possible, for a price of 20 euros before work and 20 euros after work. Jokin agrees.
Amaia takes a method from her grandmother’s books for this and tells Jokin that if it doesn’t work, she’ll give him his money back. She tells her that he thinks she is a fraud because her grandmother never failed. Since then, we see Amaia change her language. She begins to speak in terms of definites instead of options. As for her friends, they like the idea of earning potential, so they use a few of their own tactics to convince Rori of Jokin’s love. It works and they get back together. Amai’s reputation as the “town witch” begins to grow.
One of the few other people to reach out to her is Chivite himself. He asks her if there is anything she can do to fix the bad things in his life. Amaia tells him that this negative energy around him is the result of his bad karma and he must seek forgiveness to make it go away. She suggests that she needs to apologize to Javi, which he does, but to no avail. Javi himself took a potion from Amaia that she told him would help him find his “Romeo”, but they both think it’s a joke.
Still, he joins a dating app and goes to meet a guy from there. He turns out to be Chivite’s father, and because he doesn’t want to continue the date, he asks to be dropped. He tells his friends the next day, but it’s a secret between them. However, Chivite later confronts Amaia that she won’t fix the bad things in her life, and she turns it around by having to solve some mystery with her father in order to do so.
We can guess that Chivite probably knows this and is coming to terms with it. This is another example of Amaia telling people what they want to hear and using their secrets to her own advantage. Javi warns her that this cannot continue, but she ignores his advice.
In the end, Lucia starts out not liking Amaia very much but eventually accepts her as a friend. She likes Mateo, but he is interested in another girl. However, Zhao has a crush on Lucia and walks out on her at one of the parties, infuriating her. Later, when they talk, Lucia tells him that she only likes him as a friend. Zhao is upset but tries to come to terms with it.
Amaia tries to calm him down, telling him that Lucia probably has feelings for him, but she’s just hesitant. Zhao tells her that Lucia said no and he won’t interpret that as a yes. This is another example that proves Amaia doesn’t really understand people. Sure, she means well, but only when everyone likes her does she say what others want to hear. “You’re Nothing Special Season 1.”
You’re Nothing Special Season 1 Ending, Explained: What Happened At The End of The Season?
Just before the end of the year party, Amaia receives word that her family may be moving to Barcelona. What she wanted for the longest time suddenly makes her nervous. Because it was there in that small town that Amaia made a name for herself, something she wouldn’t have been able to do at home. She leaves the discussion for another day. At the party itself, Amaia walks in like a queen, but her entrance is interrupted when Irene splashes beer on her face.
Can we just say for a second that we don’t feel a little bad for her? Her pushy and selfish nature earned it. But anyway, the reason behind Irene’s actions is that since Amaia sent her to Asier, word has spread throughout the school, and now everyone knows. Amaia is embarrassed, but her friends encourage her to go out and enjoy the party. She meets Asier and leans in for a kiss while talking to him, but Asier tells her that he doesn’t see her that way.
In a moment of clarity, he asks her if that’s why she’s been doing what she’s been doing, and if that’s why Irene went overboard. While we don’t support what Amaia has done so far, we can’t help but point out that she only told Asier about Irene’s truth. He was the one who told the whole school. So this was really his fault.
Returning to the scene, he angrily leaves and Amaia has had enough. She decides to return to Barcelona and is drinking heavily when she runs into Zhao. They sit and talk for a while, during which he assures her that everything will be fine. There is a moment between the two and they end up kissing. When Lucia sees them, she is upset and goes to the DJ, who happens to be a Chevite.
He lets her play another song, at which point she kisses him. Javi himself is talking to a guy he suspected has been stalking him for a long time. The guy reveals that he did it because it bothered him. During the call, he reveals that his name is Romeo. This brings us back to when Amaia gave the love potion to Javi and told him it would help him find his “Romeo”.
He also remembered that despite the charlatan’s lies, her charms had worked on Chevite and Jokin, proving that some magic could exist after all. It turns out that Amaia is a witch who can do magic. She inherited the gift from her grandmother. She was exaggerating in some places, but in the end, she is genuine. And she created magic by teaming up with Zhao, bringing Chevite and Lucia together, and making Javi find his “Romeo”. Magic comes to those who seek it. “You’re Nothing Special Season 1.”
