The Invitation or The Bride, inspired by the novel “Dracula” by Bram Stoker, is a supernatural horror film co-written and directed by Jessica M. Thompson. It chronicles the life of Evie, who seems to have had no other known relatives after her mother’s death.
That is until she takes a DNA test and discovers that she has a long-lost cousin, Oliver, whom she never knew existed. When she finally meets her newfound relative, she is cordially invited to a lavish country wedding.
When Evie enters the mansion, she is seduced by the handsome host, Walter, but little does she know that this is the beginning of a nightmare. In order to record many key parts of the horror thriller, the film crew traveled to Nádasdladány, a remote village in the Fejér district. Most of the exterior and interior scenes involving the stately mansion or castle where the grand wedding takes place were shot on location in and around Nádasdy’s mansion (Nádasdy Kastély). It is located at Kastélypark 1 in Nádasdladány, about an hour from Budapest.

Thompson chose the historic castle for its English-looking architecture. What really drove her to complete this property for a movie was that it was once owned by Madame Báthory’s great-great-grandson. Interestingly, the latter was a convicted serial killer known as Countess Dracula and The Blood Countess, and the area itself is believed to be one of the birthplaces of Dracula in the world. The Gothic castle is therefore a character in itself in the film.

In an August 2022 Zoom interview for The Latch, Nathalie Emmanuel revealed just how haunted the castle was. She said: “I also had some scenes under the castle and there was one room where I had to start and then run and there was only one corner and it was really dark and even with all the lights I was like ‘I can’t see what in that corner and it scared me a little!’
