Surrounded by new faces, Evan is determined to throw the best bar mitzvah on his 13th birthday to cement his place in the school social circle. While the task may not be as simple as he had hoped, Evan is ready to face the challenges and learn a few lessons along the way.
Starring Eli Golden, Frankie McNellis, Josh Peck, Peter Hermann, and Debra Messing, the musical comedy is a delightful story of a young boy ready to enter the next phase of his life.
Apart from the captivating narration, the audience cannot help but praise the attractive backdrops of the film. The visuals of ’13: The Musical’ led many to wonder where it came from.
Where Was 13: The Musical Movie Filmed?
’13: The Musical’ was primarily filmed in New York and Ontario, specifically in New York, Simcoe County, the Greater Toronto Area, and York Region. In addition, some parts were filmed in Indiana, where most of the story takes place.
Filming began on June 6, 2021, and ended in August of that year. Now let’s take a closer look at the details of the 13: The Musical shooting locations.
New York
Netflix’s ’13: The Musical has several scenes that were filmed in New York; one of the leading locations is The Plaza Hotel at 750 Fifth Avenue, Central Park South, Manhattan. The accommodation was established in the early 20th century and was named after a previous establishment that occupied the same area.

The iconic Central Park in Manhattan can also be seen in the background of some scenes. In the musical, the town serves as Evan’s original home before he moves to Indiana; recording the scenes on location thus added authenticity to the story.
Ontario
The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in Ontario, named after the city of Toronto, served as one of the film’s primary filming locations. St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church at 44 Church Street East, Brampton, was one of the locations in the region where scenes were filmed for Tamra Davis’ direction.
In addition, the cast and crew visited the cities of Toronto, Oakville, North York, and Mississauga to film several parts of the Netflix musical. The city of Toronto was supposed to be the first place to start shooting.

In ’13: The Musical’, several scenes set in Downtown Walkerton, Indiana were set in the community of Beeton in Simcoe County, which is just an hour north of the Greater Toronto Area. Other scenes were filmed in nearby King City, an unincorporated community in York Region.
Indiana
Since most of ’13: The Musical takes place in small-town Indiana, it’s easy to see why the production crew would film scenes in the state. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the Midwestern state is part of the Great Lakes region and is bordered by the Ohio River to the south and the Wabash River to the west.
