Big Sky River is a romantic drama movie, directed by Peter Benson. It follows Tara Kendell and Sheriff Boone Taylor as they cope with the loss of loved ones. Tara decides to take a break from her busy life and recover from the pain her ex-husband caused her. To do so, she books a summer rental in a remote country town, hoping to spend some alone time riding horses.
There, Tara runs into her neighbor Boon, who is grieving the loss of his lover, and the two gradually get to know each other. Soon the pair realize that they want to live in the countryside together, but the arrival of Tara’s stepdaughter complicates the situation. While the romantic narrative will keep you hooked to the movie, the picturesque and lush green setting of the country town will make you curious about the actual filming locations of the Hallmark movie.
Where Was Big Sky River Movie Filmed?
“Big Sky River” was filmed in British Columbia, specifically in Agassiz. Principal photography for the Big Sky River took place in June 2022. Although the story takes place in the fictional Parable County, Montana, the production team decided to shoot the film in British Columbia.
With its vast and versatile landscape, the province does a great job of duplicating locations around the world, which it did for ‘The Big Sky River.
British Columbia
Most of the core parts of “Big Sky River” were located in and around Agassiz, a small community in the eastern Fraser Valley region of British Columbia. In June 2022, the Aberdeen building next to Pioneer Park was transformed into a fictional Sheriff’s Office in Parable County, Montana for some important scenes in the film. In addition, several sections of Pioneer Avenue also served as prominent filming locations.

The set depicting the sheriff’s office was surrounded by several police cars and several uniformed officers with several Montana flags unfurling overhead in the background to make the location look as realistic as possible. In addition, a huge “Sheriff’s Office Parable County” sign covered one of the building’s windows.
Other minor production details, such as the bulletin board flyers, were also appropriately changed to give it a Montana look. The team even used old wooden wagon wheels, spring flowers, and worn benches to complete the set.

Because Agassiz is surrounded by mountains and is home to several bodies of water, including the great Fraser River, it is an ideal location for a place like the Treasure State. In addition to “Big Sky River,” Agassiz was prominently featured in the production of several other movies and TV series, such as ‘Recoil’ ‘Love Hard,’ and ‘Wayward Pines.’
