“Buba” is a German comedy-drama film directed by Arno Feldhusen, which revolves around the title character, whose real name is Jakob Otto. Ever since he lost his parents in an accident, Buba tends to balance any good feeling he gets in life. With the help of his brother Dante, he managed to come up with a system that makes his everyday life as unpleasant as possible.
This system has worked pretty well for Bubo over the past three decades, but everything changes when this small-town con artist joins the mob with Dante and falls in love. Over time, as his feelings deepen, his attempt to make up for his karma becomes more difficult and more hilarious than ever.
Fans of the original series and the genre itself will probably gravitate to this Netflix movie and find it a lot of fun. However, the interesting use of background locations will certainly spark some curiosity in your mind and make you want to know more about them.
Where Was Buba Movie Filmed?
“Buba” was filmed entirely in Germany, specifically in Berlin and Brandenburg. Principal photography on the German comedy began in October 2021 and ended in November of the same year.
By choosing to shoot the film in Germany, where the story takes place, the production unit added an element of authenticity to the narrative and increased its quality. Now let’s walk through the places that appear in the Netflix Buba movie!
Germany
Several pivotal parts for “Buba” were provided in Berlin, Germany’s capital and largest city in terms of area and population. It appears that the cast and crew members of the German film traveled across the city to record various scenes against suitable backdrops. The city’s economy is based on several high-tech firms and the service sector, including research facilities, media corporations, creative industries, and convention venues.

In addition, Berlin is home to three world heritage sites – the palaces and parks in Potsdam and Berlin, the Berlin Moderne estates, and the Museum Island. Over the years, the capital has been visited by several filmmakers for the production of various types of films and TV series. Some of the notable ones that represent Berlin are ‘The Matrix Resurrections’, ‘Inglourious Basterds, ‘Suspiria’ and ‘The Flight Attendant’.

The production unit even traveled to Brandenburg, a state in the northeastern region of Germany surrounding the capital state of Berlin, to film some of the other parts of the comedy-drama. In October 2021, a film crew was spotted filming several key sequences in and around Babelsberg Palace (Schloss Babelsberg) in Babelsberg Park 10 in Potsdam.
In addition, they shot several scenes in Bad Freienwalde, a spa town in the Märkisch-Oderland district.
