“Purple Hearts” is a musical romantic drama based on the novel of the same name by Tess Wakefield. Directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum. It revolves around Cassie, an aspiring and struggling musician, and a soon-to-be-deployed US Marine named Luke.
The two agree to bind themselves in holy matrimony for military purposes and benefits despite their many differences. But when tragedy strikes Luke, their fake marriage begins to turn into something real as they grow closer.
The unique and emotional storytelling keeps the audience hooked from beginning to end, but what catches their attention the most is the interesting use of backdrops that highlight the significant differences between Luke and Cassie’s lives.
So it’s only natural that you’re interested in the real-life locations that feature in Sofia Carson’s main role. Now, know about Purple Hearts filming locations.
Where Was Purple Hearts Movie Filmed?
“Purple Hearts” was filmed in Texas and California, specifically in San Diego County, Los Angeles County, Riverside, and Austin. Principal photography on the Netflix movie began in August 2021 and ended in October of that year.
Texas
To record a few more parts of ‘Purple Hearts’, the production team traveled to Austin, the capital of Texas. Also known as the live music capital of the world, Austin is known for its live music scene with many performances throughout the city.
Not only that but it is visited quite regularly by filmmakers for the production of various kinds of movies and TV shows. Some notable ones that used Austin locations are “Sin City”, “Lolita”, “The Leftovers”, and “Friday Night Lights”.
California
Many key sequences for “Purple Hearts” were shot in Los Angeles County, the most populous county in California and the US. The Cassie concert scene was filmed at the famous Hollywood Bowl amphitheater, located at 2301 North Highland Avenue in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Sofia Carson, who plays Cassie, told Netflix that it would be an understatement to say that performing at the Hollywood Bowl was surreal.

Explaining how she felt about the experience, Carson said, “Performing at the Hollywood Bowl, on the set of a movie that’s so dear to my heart — a movie that I had the honor of executive producing — playing a song that I wrote was one. of the most memorable moments of my life.”
Additionally, the production team appears to have camped out at Joe’s Great American Bar & Grill at 4311 West Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank. Additionally, Santa Clarita served as one of the film’s important filming locations.

Some key parts of ‘Purple Hearts’ were recorded in San Diego County, the second most populous county in California, located in the southwest corner of the Golden State. In particular, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton at 20250 Vandegrift Boulevard in Oceanside is where many Marine Corps-related sequences were filmed.
Interestingly, the film is set in the coastal town of Oceanside; therefore the parts where the lenses are there add authenticity to the scenes.
