“Dark Winds Season 2.” “Dark Winds” is a crime thriller that follows the story of two police officers who encounter a horrifying crime that takes a personal turn for them. The first season was critically acclaimed, delivered high ratings for AMC, and became the series’ best launch ever for AMC+.
It also received praise for its all-Native American writing team, an almost entirely Native American cast, and a heavy focus on Native American culture. With its sharp storyline, full of twists and turns, the show keeps the audience in suspense. Now, know about Dark Winds Season 2.
Dark Winds Season 2 Episode 1 Release Date
Dark Winds Season 1 was first aired on AMC and AMC+ on June 12, 2022, and ended on July 17, 2022. Dark Winds Season 1 has six episodes, with a watching time of 47 minutes. The show was met with critical acclaim as well as a lot of love from the audience, after which it didn’t take long for the network to decide its fate. “Dark Winds” was renewed for a second season nearly two weeks after its Season 1 premiere.
President of Entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, Dan McDermott, said, “This unique creative team and cast have delivered something truly special with Dark Winds. We can’t wait to share the rest of this exciting first season ride with fans and follow Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee into Dark Winds Season 2.”
He also confirmed that the show will air sometime next year. Given the quick renewal it received, we expect Dark Winds Season 2 to go into production within a few months, especially if the network expects it to premiere next year. Give or take, we expect Dark Winds Season 2 will release in 2023.
Dark Winds Season 2: Cast & Characters
The first season of “Dark Winds” stars Kiowa Gordon as Jim Chee, Zahn McClarnon as Joe Leaphorn, and Jessica Matten as Bernadette Manuelito. As their characters are central to the story, all three are expected to return.
Dark Winds Season 2 could also see the return of Elva Guerra as Sally, Deanna Allison as Emma Leaphorn, DezBaa as Helen Atcitty, Jonathan Adams as Lester, and Ryan Begay as Guy Atcitty. Since his arc wasn’t fully wrapped up in Season 1, John Henry Dihel could also return as B.J Vines. New cast members are also expected to join as next season explores a new set of villains.
Dark Winds Season 2: Plot
“Dark Winds” is based on the Leaphorn and Chee book tv series written by Tony Hillerman. Dark Winds Season 1 borrowed plot elements from ‘The Listening Woman’ and ‘People of Darkness’. With around fifteen other books to draw material from, the show’s writing team has many options.
Creator Graham Roland has been considering ideas for Dark Winds Season 2 for some time. “I think the first conversations we had narrowed it down to a few, like two or three. I definitely have my preferences, but I think this will end up being one of them. So we talked about it, but we didn’t exactly hit, ‘Okay, this is it,'” he said.
While plot details aren’t available yet, it’s safe to say that the show will be very different from whatever book the series chooses to resemble. The first season itself had a lot of differences, even in the story and the portrayal of the characters. Next season, the series will continue to build on that, with its roots tied to Hillerman’s stories.
