“Resident Evil Season 1.” “Resident Evil,” a Netflix series, is based on the Capcom game of the same name. The story takes place between 2022 and 2036. In 2036, adult Jade Wesker (Ella Balinska) travels through London and various other zombie-infested locations to find a cure. She is being pursued by the Umbrella Corporation, an organization believed to be the reason for the apocalypse.
In 2022, we see young Jade and her “twin” sister Billie moving to New Raccoon City with their father Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick). While the two girls, Jade and Billie, settle into their new environment, their father, Albert begins working at the Umbrella Corporation, where he becomes involved in the development of a drug called Joy. Now, know about Resident EvilSeason 1.
Resident Evil Season 1: Synopsis
The final episode opens in 2030, where Jade and Amrita (Ayushi Chhabra) are experimenting with electrical signals on a small zombie lizard. A shot of a gigantic crocodile being dragged by Jade’s water crew around a mooring line suggests that Jade has used this technology on a larger reptile. In 2022, Roth (Anthony Oseyemi) brings Jade and Billie back to their house so they can pack their bags and leave with Umbrella.
Evelyn (Paola Nuñez) talks to Bert (one of Albert Wesker’s clones) about the accident that happened because he was dating girls and pretending to be Albert. She tells him that if he helps her with her project (which is another weird zombie locked in some sort of water tank), she’ll let him stay with the girls in his own house.
While Roth waits for the girls to finish packing, Jade and Billie try to calm down. They plan to escape with the help of passports and money, which are hidden in a large sack. Jade keeps Roth busy with a bunch of nonsense and Billie gets the bag. They try to escape, but Roth catches up with them.
The tense situation triggers something in Billie and she goes into zombie mode and attacks Roth. As they argue, Billie tells Jade to run. After initial hesitation, she does so by dashing into one of New Raccoon City’s back alleys. In 2036, Jade and Billie (Adeline Rudolph) face a horde of zombies that Jade has lured into a makeshift Umbrella camp. While Billie unleashes hell with her drones, Jade makes her way back to the ship.
Jade urges Saqim (George Jackos) to release the giant crocodile so he can attack Billie and the rest of the soldiers before they reach the survivors. Saqim hesitates, but then with the help of Arjun (Ahad Raza Mir) and Jade, he awakens the monster. In a flashback, Roth brings Billie to Evelyn and, after seeing her bite, realizes that she was the one who was bitten by the dog that fateful night.
After exchanging barbs, Billie asks Evelyn if she could help her with her illness, and she says she’s the only one who can. At Evelyn’s house, Diana is starting to have very visible side effects from the Joy pill that Evelyn put in her wine. Simon (Connor Gosatti) is understandably freaked out by this. However, before he can process what is happening, Jade arrives and asks for help.
While Diana is busy with Pablo (the dog), Simon takes Jade out and listens to her story about the clones and everything that happened to her and Billie in the last 24 hours. When Jade mentions Joy’s pills, Simon realizes something is wrong. He confronts Diana, who cuts her finger and “feels nothing”. Simon asks her if the pills are hers and she says no. Evelyn runs tests on Billie.
That’s when Simon called her and asked her about the pills she gave Diana. The conversation turns into an argument as Simon can’t believe what Evelyn has done and Evelyn can’t explain the extent of her plans. Meanwhile, Evelyn’s assistant injects Billie with something and she starts acting up again. We immediately cut to a grown-up Billie still raining down zombies.
Resident Evil Season 1: Ending, Explained: What Happened At The End of The Season?
As Billie, Jade, Bert, and Albert try to escape from the Umbrella facility, they realize that their chances are getting smaller and smaller. So they come up with a plan. Albert and Bert prepare an explosive device but realize that someone must light the fuse. So someone has to stay behind to do the deed. They get this fake emotional moment when Albert decides to, you know, “pay for his sins.”
And I say “faux emotional moment” because we’ve seen tweaks to just about everything on this show. However, there is nothing here for remote detonation. They don’t even try to make it look like they’ve run out of options. They simply decide that this is the only way to achieve this escape.
Albert writes something on a piece of paper, gives it to Jade, and tells her to find the woman whose details are written there. Bert, Jade, and Billie run while Albert lights his lighter to blow the place up. Evelyn comes in and blasts his hand off along with the lighter. He starts talking about how he’s going to change the world and whatnot.
Albert still manages to start a fire, which takes time to get to the Molotov cocktails so Evelyn can get to safety because the plot needs it while her soldiers barely move. Bert, Jade, and Billie watch the explosion from afar. In Jade’s presence, she reaches for her gun and holds her wound. He “dies” but in a convenient way where he makes it to the next season if there is one.
Bert, Billie, and Jade leave New Raccoon City. Evelyn is brought out of the wreckage. The zombie that was in the water tank is now free. On a piece of paper is the name, Ada Wong. Those who have played the game will know about it. Those who don’t, well, here’s the gist. She is a spy who is known for handling all kinds of nasty situations without any remorse or guilt.
She worked with Dr. Albert Wesker (in the games) and was there when Raccoon City fell. She is known for constantly changing allegiances. Although it is not very clear, he works for the rival company Umbrella Corporation. The character appeared in the action films “Resident Evil: Retribution” (played by Li Bingbing) and “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City” (played by Lily Gao).
Despite the shoddy direction, bad writing, and aimless performances, I think “Resident Evil” fans will be hooked because of all the connections to the games, along with a few twists on the lore. And it will get a second season. I suppose you can expect more of the same from this one. You will see Billie and Jade grow up under the tutelage of Bert. Hopefully, Ada Wong will play an integral role.
Will we see Evelyn in 2022 turn into the version of herself we see in 2036? Will we see the zombies in the water tank doing anything? I don’t know. Jade’s mission to find a cure for the zombie apocalypse will definitely be put on the backburner as she must now save Bea before Billie does something to her.
