The German original “For Jojo” or “Für Jojo” is the second feature directorial effort of the German filmmaker Barbara Ott. Based on Stefanie Ren’s Cleo screenplay, the LGBTQ-tinged friendship film captures a tumultuous friendship at the crossroads of life. Jojo and Paula share an apartment as they go about their business, frolicking, gossiping, and pranking the men.
However, Jojo meets potential suitor Daniel at the airport on his way to Mexico, and Daniel happens to be headed there too. Although the film does not take us to Mexico, Jojo and Daniel decide to get married while there. Meanwhile, Jojo, Daniel, and Paula all come from a small German island community, possibly in the North Sea, and Paula’s journey thus conceals a return to her roots. You have to wonder where the dramatic coastal shots were filmed. In that case, let’s explore further. Now, know about For Jojo movie filming locations.
Where Was For Jojo (Für Jojo) Movie Filmed?
For Jojo was filmed entirely in Germany, mainly in Berlin and on the islands of Sylt and Pellworm. Falko Lachmund, the cinematographer of the films “Sunny” and “Kids Run”, joined the team as cinematographer. Germany offers an ideal filming environment for budding and established filmmakers and producers, complete with plenty of government and non-profit film funds.
Thanks to the German Federal Film Fund, eligible productions can receive a grant of approximately 20% of the approved production costs. These advantages make Germany lucrative for overseas production, but also home to the primary domestic film industry. Now we will take you to the specific locations where the For Jojo movie was shot.
Germany
At the beginning of the For Jojo film, Paula and Jojo are two single women living city life in Berlin. As a result, several filming took place in and around the German capital and one of Europe’s most historically significant cities. After the war, Berlin essentially re-emerged as a typical European city.
The cast and crew ostensibly lensed scenes on roads, bridges, and around the airfield. Although the details are unclear, the team could also rent an apartment to house the lead pair. If not, they created the scenes in a studio in the city.

Although the name of the island is rarely mentioned in the film, it is Paula and Jojo’s original home and a key location in the story. The production team apparently filmed some of the island scenes around the island of Sylt.
Filming began on a historic island in the Frisian archipelago in the North Sea. The island is not very small, with a population of about 15,000 and an area of 99.14 square kilometers. In addition, it is a site representing island life before the 20th century, and according to archaeologists, a settlement on the island dates back to the Neolithic.

Sylt is also home to several historic nudist beaches. Some sequences may have been filmed in Pellworm, a municipality in the district of Nordfriesland, in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. The final scenes, including the muddy procession sequence, were apparently filmed on this island.
The island, which covers 37 square kilometers of land, is complete with a lighthouse. The old church, museum, and close-knit community will delight you if you ever decide to visit this almost off-the-map place.
