Becoming Elizabeth Season 1 Episode 3: Recap
Becoming Elizabeth Season 1 Episode 3, Catherine finds out she is pregnant. Although she is happy to hear the news, it becomes a source of anxiety for her. The politics of the royal court are topsy-turvy and the wrong move for anyone at Chelsea Manor could mean the death penalty for Catherine and her child. Previously, she was motivated by a promise of power. But now, her actions only serve to protect her and her baby.
Her job does not make it easy for her husband, Thomas Seymour, whose influence in court is controlled by his older brother, the King’s Protector. In addition, he secretly engages with Elizabeth, and his letter to Mary becomes a source of concern to all in court. Elizabeth’s refusal to help is shocking to Mary. She believes that Catholicism is under great pressure under Edward’s regime and that things seem to be going from bad to worse.
To allay her fears, King Protector decided to release the bishop, who had been imprisoned in the London Tower. The bishop arrives in Framlingham and urges Mary to take steps to re-establish Catholicism in England by taking the throne. However, Mary has no intention of placing her country in the civil war and is completely estranged from her seemingly abandoned family.
The effects of Elizabeth’s letter scratch old wounds on Catherine, but the girl’s mistakes get worse on her fifteenth birthday. Catherine and Thomas made a party for her and used it as an opportunity to be with Edward and Jane Gray under the same roof. Because the Lord Protector did not allow a meeting between them, Catherine thought that Elizabeth’s birthday would be a great day to be together without anyone’s permission.
However, their plans come to an end when Elizabeth realizes that Thomas has actually thrown the party with the wrong motive. With an automatic walk, she asks Jane to sing Edward’s love song. It ends badly as poor Jane is caught unawares and can’t sing very well. Robert expresses his disappointment at the actions of Elizabeth, as well as Thomas. That same night, Thomas visits Elizabeth’s room and is caught by Catherine. This turns out to be the third strike that has led Catherine to take drastic action.
