Living in the 1920s, matrix Bella wants her luxurious hotel to be a home away from the British tourist home in particular but also to have some stubborn guests from other parts of the world. In this case, she does not agree with her husband. Not only that, but she also faces stiff criticism from a strong Fascist politician in the area.

The ‘Hotel Portofino’ was recorded in Italy and Croatia, mainly in Liguria, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and Istria County. Although most of the series is set in Portofino, Italy, many important scenes are shot in Croatia, especially in areas where the production team finds similarities with Italian locations.
The main filming of the first season of the drama series began in May 2021 and ended at the end of July of that year.
Italy
Since the series is set in Portofino, it makes sense that the production team is using real-world locations to capture something important. Located in the Metropolitan City of Genoa on the Italian Riviera coast, Portofino is a popular fishing village among tourists with its beautiful harbor and history.

Some of the most famous places within the city include Castello Brown, Statue of Christ of the Abyss, Church of St. Martin, Church of St. George, and the Oratory of Santa Maria Assunta.
Croatia
For recording purposes, the cast and crew of the ‘Hotel Portofino’ set up tents in Opatija, a coastal town and municipality in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. To be clear, most of the sea shoots seen in season 1 were filmed in the Adriatic Sea as it represents the Italian Riviera. Many other exterior photos have also been lensed in the city as it’s a comfortable and beautiful location that often reminds us of many Italian tourist attractions.

A team of producers traveled to other parts of the region to record some shots for the first season of the drama series. They recorded a few scenes in the area of the city of Rijeka, in the village of Lovran, and in the Matulji municipality. Over the years, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County has appeared in several movies and TV series, including ‘Move On,’ ‘Mayday,’ ‘Clark,’ ‘Diana,’ and ‘Crossing Lines.’

Additional scenes of the first season of the ‘Hotel Portofino’ have also been taken from Istria County, the westernmost state of Croatia. The editorial team recorded a number of photographs found locally in the cities of Rovinj and Pula and in the Bale municipality. Due to the region’s attractive and dynamic landscapes, it has served as a place to record a number of products. Other notable ones are ‘C.L.E.A.N.,’ ‘Dismissal,’ ‘Hitler’s Wife Guard’ and ‘Witch Age.’
