At the end of Season 1 “Brotherhood“, Edson Ferreira, better known as Savage Edson, started a riot inside Colonel Roberto Tibirica’s prison, also known as a “mousetrap,” and took up prison. In front of the media and the public, Edson demanded the removal of the prison warden Oliverio Noronha, who brutally tortured prisoners in a rat trap.
It was because of these atrocities that Edson started a Brotherhood unit inside the prison to get justice for his colleagues. Soon, however, a rebellion broke out, and Edson and members of his gang were identified as members of a violent criminal organization.
On the other hand, Edson’s younger sister, Cristina Ferreira, who worked in the DA’s office as an attorney, has been caught in the criminal world as she lost her job after trying to forge government documents to protect Edson from the pit. Later, she was approached by a police officer, Jose Carlos Andrade, who promised Cristina to be a police informant to release her. To save himself, Cristina agreed to a contract and helped Andrade break up the group.
Brotherhood (Irmandade) Season 2: Synopsis
After meeting the demands, Edson and the other prisoners were deported, and the SWAT team immediately took control of the situation inside the prison. The government sent another guard to free the prisoners, and as expected, he was worse than his predecessor. The new Warden, Mauro Jordao, took Edson to his office, where he met the Brotherhood Season 2 opponent, the new secretary, Fernando Gomes, who was known for his cruel and corrupt ways.
The government called Gomes because they wanted to get rid of Edson and his gang. However, Gomes already knew that his government would reinstate him in his pension after dealing with Edson and his gang, and he would not get anything out of it. So, he made a request to Edson. Gomes offered Edson the freedom to work inside the prison to get 80 grand a month, and in order not to use the radar, he specifically asked them not to draw the attention of the police.
When Edson refused, Jordao began abusing Edson’s inmates, forcing him to enter into an agreement with them. However, Edson did not have that kind of money to pay Gomes, so with the help of former gang member Zica, he discovered that about half a ton of drugs lay in a police evacuation room that was about to be burned down.
Meanwhile, Cristina, who believed that she would eventually be able to live a life of peace away from the shadow of a gang, was followed by Darlene, who tried to kill Cristina because she was a police detective. Cristina, too, had evidence against Darlene, which was Andrade’s recorded voice. On the recording, Darlene informed the police about Scavenger’s whereabouts, and Cristina believed it was her last weapon against Darlene.
However, when Cristina went to the mousetrap to see Edson, she could not tell him about Darlene. Edson, on the other hand, gave Cristina a new job. Edson wanted Cristina to enter the DA office and find the drugs lying in the testimony room and the date of the arson attack so that the gang could steal them before they were destroyed.
Edson asked Cristina to contact Darlene and arrange the burglary, and Cristina had no choice but to make an agreement with her. She gained Darlene’s trust by plotting to assassinate a police officer who believed Darlene had killed his friend Andrade. Meanwhile, Darlene agreed to help Cristina, thinking she was the only one who had contacts in the DA and who would be able to help the gang steal drugs.
However, she planned to kill Cristina soon after the robbery. Unlike other members of the group, Cristina did not believe in unnecessary bloodshed and thus created a safer way to steal drugs from the welding area, but things got worse, and they were only able to steal half a ton of drugs. Adding insult to injury, the drug dealer, Oseas, king of the Faveas, who promised to buy drugs from the gang, refused to pay them until they delivered the promised weight, which was half a ton.
Cristina had planned to steal money from Oseas with the help of one of his teammates, Flare, and later reported Oseas to the police. Police stormed Oseas’ pit, and he quickly fled to Favela. With the stolen money, Cristina paid Gomes to help Edson buy time to plan to escape the rat trap. In prison, Edson bribed other police officers and, with the help of security guards, Zica, arranged to leave the prison in a garbage truck with his most loyal husband, Ivan.
Edson’s escape, however, would have angered Gomes, who would have killed the entire gang; so, in order to control the devil, Cristina and Darlene decided to deceive Gomes by kidnapping his 14-year-old son, Antonio, who had epilepsy. Cristina had warned Darlene that their plan to threaten Gomes with the use of his sick son could only aggravate the situation, but Darlene, who selfishly wanted Edson out of prison, was ready to take that opportunity.
Finally, what Cristina feared eventually came true. At Gomes’ house, Darlene shot Antonio in the head, resulting in an arrest that claimed his life. As soon as Gomes heard of Antonio’s death, he lost his temper and ordered Mauro Jordao to shoot all the gang members. Jordao kept Buri alive to interrogate him about the whereabouts of Edson and Ivan, who had recently escaped from prison in a garbage truck.
Antonio’s death also devastated Cristina, who ended up blaming Darlene for it. To protect herself, Darlene revealed to Edson that Cristina was a snitch in the group, but Cristina had Darlene’s evidence that convinced Edson and others that it was really Darlene who told the police about Scavenger’s location. Edson ordered Bird to shoot Darlene, at the same time, and police entered the area where he was hiding. The investigating officer, Firmino, discovered the hiding place for Edson’s younger brother, Marcel, who had a criminal business and wanted to protect Cristina from it.
Fortunately, Cristina and Edson were able to escape the police raid. Gradually, however, Edson lost his mind. He found himself guilty of Scavenger’s death and soon made things his own, as a result of which he lost the sense of transformation and the real motive behind his brotherhood. In the war against the corrupt system of things, Edson had lost all his closest associates, and he wanted to retaliate in the most violent way possible.
He wanted to bomb the police station, but Cristina knew the consequences of such an attack and tried to persuade Edson to take revenge, that innocent people could lose their lives, but Edson was blinded. And so in order to stop Edson, Cristina gave anonymous advice to the police about his whereabouts, and the next morning, Gomes and his men surrounded Edson’s apartment. Edson used the same bombs to detonate the explosives, and Gomes and others believe he was killed in the blast.
Brotherhood (Irmandade) Season 2 Ends, Explained: Edson Alive or Dead?
Edson did not die in the blast. Instead, he used the distraction to escape from the police. At the time, however, Edson was convinced that it was not Darlene, who was working as a police detective, but her sister, Cristina, who had lied to him from the beginning. Early in their childhood, it was Cristina who told their father about the drugs Edson had hidden in their house, and as soon as the father found out the truth about his son, he reported them to the authorities, who immediately arrested Edson and threw him into prison. in 1974.
Edson did not leave prison because his sentence continued to increase due to the increase in prison cases, so he made his living quarters. However, when Cristina met Edson 20 years later, he gave her a second chance to break free. Cristina tried to help the group, but she wanted to leave and live a more peaceful life, but Edson did not give his members the opportunity to leave the brotherhood. The same thing happened to Ivan, who wanted to leave the criminal world behind, but Edson forced them to stay and fight for his word and justice.
At the start of Brotherhood Season 2, Cristina really wanted to leave everything behind, but as the end of Season 2 approached, Cristina finally realized that there was no way out. And no matter how hard he tried to fight for justice on the legal side, he could not finally achieve it as the whole system was corrupt, and that is why he eventually became an integral part of the brotherhood. What separated Edson from him, however, was that Edson believed in atrocities, while Cristina believed in legitimate means of doing business illegally.
She did not believe in unnecessary bloodshed and wanted to keep her conscience clean. Cristina countered by saying that if Edson and Gomes were both to kill everyone around them, then what could be the difference between brotherhood and a corrupt system? And to make matters worse, Edson had a vicious mind, and he could not think straight. There is no “I” in the rebellion, yet Edson believed that brotherhood was his voice and voice, and Cristina saw her brother gradually turn into a violent dictator.
Edson needed to die, but he managed to survive the blast and came to Cristina’s house to kill his sister. Luckily, Marcel, who was hiding by the window, shot Edson before injuring Cristina, Cristina also shot Edson to confirm the death of the man who had destroyed his family. Fortunately, Edson and Darlene’s daughter will be raised by Marcel and his wife, and she will be far from her father’s shadow. Cristina and Marcel would not allow Edson’s daughter to be another Cristina or Darlene and would try to give her a peaceful moral life.
