42 Days of Darkness Season 1: Recap

‘42 Days of Darkness’ begins with Verónica helping Karen and Emilia, her two daughters, get ready to go to school with her husband Mario. After the three leave, Verónica receives an unknown visitor. Mario receives a call from an unknown man and woman, who tell him to kidnap his wife. After class, Karen arrives home and realizes that her mother is gone. Karen phoned her father to inform him of Verónica’s disappearance and reported the matter to the police. They began to search for the missing persons. At that moment, Víctor Pizarro begins investigating the disappearance of Verónica with Nora and Braulio.

Pizarro and his team are considering a number of theories about Verónica’s disappearance, including running away from a potential lover, a woman revealing her missing partner, or Mario being involved in a similar affair. When the lawyer saw that the police investigation was not going well, he gave the department his job but was fired by the officer. He meets Cecilia and asks to represent the Montes family. Nora goes through Mario’s call list and discovers that he never called his wife once after learning of her disappearance. His reluctance to provide police with DNA and blood samples further fueled the lawyer’s suspicions.

When Mario realizes that Cecilia blames him, he tells police that the woman who called him about the kidnapping is his sister-in-law. Police sought the help of a psychologist to get an opinion on Mario. The psychiatrist, after noticing that the husband is using the past tense when talking about his missing wife, asks the investigator to keep an eye on him. In the meantime, authorities are bringing in police dogs to find any missing items. Mario gets upset when he learns that dogs work well.

The next day, he telephoned the police to inform them that he had found Verónica’s body in the basement of their house. An autopsy suggests that Verónica’s death was a suicide. Many years later, Pizarro convinced Cecilia to do something else. Authorities exhumed the body and analysis suggested that the cause of Verónica’s death could be the use of a toxic substance. However, the investigation is coming to an end. Pizarro, fascinated by the case, finds it difficult to continue with the same investigation.

Many years later, he meets one of his former clients, who helps him identify the man in the police photo as Jaime Ñunez Jara, who phoned Mario the day Verónica disappeared. With Pizarro’s help, Asenjo arrests Jaime, who confesses to killing Verónica on behalf of Mario to pay 5 million pesos. Mario is arrested for allegedly hiring Jaime to kill his wife. Although Jaime agrees, the prosecutor faces the need for evidence linking him to Mario in order to convict the latter.

42 Days of Darkness Season 1: Ending,

As for Pizarro and Cecilia, Jaime’s confession confirms their belief that Mario is involved in crime in one way or another. However, their satisfaction does not last long as the prosecutor seeks further evidence that the deceased husband had paid Jaime to kill her. Pizarro’s entire case was based on the testimony of Roberto, who may have seen Jaime calling Mario online. Roberto, however, is reluctant to help Pizarro because he is not sure to identify Jaime as a caller after five long years. Roberto does not wish to play on human destiny without absolute belief, leaving Pizarro empty-handed against Mario.

As the prosecutor fails to provide proof that Mario actually paid for Jaime, the court begins to rely on her husband. In addition, Jaime decides not to testify in court, making his consent to Mario’s employment invalid as evidence. Without Jaime’s consent, the prosecutor’s case against Mario collapsed and led to his release. Mario succeeds in going to court as the lawyer wins his case. Jaime’s case is considered a criminal offense for murder and he is sentenced to death by felon Verónica.

Since the theory that Mario hired Jaime is simply based on the last words, even Pizarro is not entirely sure. The days Jaime had money before Verónica’s disappearance and subsequent death, challenged her confession. Moreover, there is no evidence that Mario transferred or gave him $ 2 million, making the case even more serious. In the end, the judge sought evidence to prove his conviction and, in the eyes of the law, Mario had not hired Jaime and was not involved in his wife’s death.

Even when Pizarro fails to find any evidence against Mario, he still believes his case will appear in court with Jaime’s confession and evidence. Surprisingly, Jaime chooses not to testify, which makes his confession invalid. Pizarro believes that Mario gave Jaime enough money to silence him to get out of the case. Having a daughter who lives alone, the lawyer thinks he must have made an agreement with Mario or his lawyer for her child. Since he is the sole breadwinner for his family and his daughter, it is possible that Jaime thought about his life as if he were a witness.

Whether Jaime is a witness or not, he knows that the only way out is to get to prison. Pizarro thinks that Jaime may have considered giving a witness that benefited him and his daughter. As the only person with a constant concern, it is not surprising that Jaime may have chosen peace instead of justice. Although Pizarro never thinks that Mario is innocent, Verónica’s daughters Karen and Emilia believe that Jaime chose not to testify because his father had nothing to do with him.

Pizarro’s commitment to serving the people around him and his desire to see justice in his community severely damaged his relationship with his son Joaco. As a father, he never existed because of his son and eventually cut off emotional contact with him. After the trial of Mario and Jaime, the lawyer realizes that his son deserves to be a better father. He spends time with her until they leave for camp. Verónica’s death and the subsequent investigation damaged the dangerous bond that Pizarro and Joaco shared and the lawyer finally made the same arrangements to have his son

“42 Days of Darkness.”While camping, Pizarro suggests to Joaco that they should stay in Santiago to achieve their latest dream. Joaco has always dreamed of living in the Chilean capital, where opportunities are scarce. He has been eager to leave the frontiers of Southern Chile to spread his wings. Pizarro, as a loving father, agrees to help him achieve his dream by moving to the city. However, his decision may not be just about seeing his son happy. After informing Joaco of his decision, Pizarro takes a newspaper out of his pocket and looks at the report of a young woman who has been missing for three days.

The case of the missing woman must have happened in Santiago and Pizarro’s motive for going to the capital could be his determination to represent the woman’s family. After losing Mario’s case, Pizarro needs to win to convince himself that justice can be done in his country. Therefore, he may be going to Santiago to help the family. It is almost impossible for Pizarro to not commit himself to justice and the case of the missing woman could be the next chapter in his life. If so, his rejuvenating relationship with Joaco could be affected.”42 Days of Darkness.”
