The Offer Season 1 Episode 5: Recap
Francis Coppola revealed in The Offer Season 1 Episode 5 that he wanted to build a functional kitchen worth about $ 75000. Ruddy could not understand the cruel and unreasonable decisions Coppola was making. The work had gone beyond budget, and yet, they were finding it difficult to make a living.
On the one hand, the financial team was pressuring Ruddy to cut back on the budget, and on the other hand, the creative team was not yet ready to compromise. Ruddy was killed in the middle, negotiating and dealing with one problem or another every day. Even after all the pain he took to organize the process, the team of designers fought over trivial matters, and their reckless behavior caused him great frustration.
He was just facing a lot in front of a man. His wife, Francoise, had left him, and he no longer trusted his only friend, Bob Evans. Eventually, Ruddy decided to go to Charlie Bluhdorn again and ask him to increase the budget. Charlie gave them the last $ 6 million with the condition that if it exceeds the prescribed amount, they will pay it out of their own pockets. They agreed as Coppola was convinced that he would be able to make a film for that amount.
Francis Coppola wanted to meet the actors, who played the various actors of the Corleone family, at an Italian dinner before they started filming. He wanted them to get in touch and get to know one another. Again and again, during the previous production of “The Godfather,” the crew saw why they were taking so much pain to make a film.
The actors sat and played the famous dinner scene from the film, where Coppola, for the first time, saw the characters on paper alive. It was like magic. He saw Don and his size. He saw Sonny’s arrogance and Michael’s indifference. It gave Francis Ford Coppola, and Albert Ruddy revived the strength to continue the fight. They knew they were on their way to creating something unprecedented in the history of cinema.
