‘The First Lady’ is a tv series of anthology dramas describing the reigns of the first three influential United States women. In a similar way, the show follows the lives of three FLOTUS – Michelle Obama, Barack Obama’s wife, Gerald Ford’s partner Betty Ford, and Eleanor Roosevelt, the better half of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The East Wing of the White House serves as the residence of the First Lady and her staff, and it is here that much of what these beautiful women achieved is happening.
Michelle Pfeiffer, Viola Davis, and Gillian Anderson play the role of strong women. Their concerts, along with well-researched accounts and a star of the show, provide insight into the work of the First Lady of the United States or the FLOTUS office. The series introduces ladies well into their field of expertise, where they demonstrate how their work contributes to the governance of the country. The setting provides an official but glamorous place where historical scenes live. Now, know about The First Lady series filming locations.
‘The First Lady’ is filmed in a few cities in the state of Georgia, though most of the show is apparently housed in the White House. Areas include Covington, Atlanta, and Macon, all within Georgia. Production of the exhibition started in February 2021.
In an interview with The Washington Post, production designer Tony Fanning shared that more research is being done on creating historical drama sets for more details.
Located in Newton County in Georgia, Covington is one of the most prominent shooting spots in the series. Cinelease Studios – Three Ring, a movie studio on 11642 Georgia Highway, serves as a recording studio for many ‘The First Lady.’ According to reports, the materials needed to build the studio sets were shipped from all over Georgia, the state of New England, and Los Angeles to maintain the authenticity of the FLOTUS office and other locations.
Recorded in the middle of the Covid epidemic, there were some struggles. “We had to avoid some of the biggest events, the best because of the covid,” Tony Fanning told the Washington Post. “At that Ford state dinner, East Room scenes were added [meaning people were added to the scene later], because we couldn’t fill it.”
The production also took place on Monticello Street, which doubled as a recording studio, especially for scenes covering Betty Ford. The band also recorded a few first-season scenes on Reynolds Street. The Town House Cafe, located at 1145 Washington Street South West, also serves as the backyard of the series.
Other venues used by the production team to record the first season of the anthology drama series include Simms Barbershop, located at 1137 Hendrick Street South West, and the southern edge of Washington Street from Hendrick Street to Monticello Street. Over the years, the small town has hosted recordings of several dramas, including ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘Legacies.’
Atlanta, the capital of Georgia, is a popular destination for films and shows. The First Lady’ team also starred in a few episodes of the show in Hollywood of the South. In April 2021, “FLOTUS” signs were spotted in the Hunter Hills area around Chicamauga Avenue North West and Sharon Street North West. Photographs taken outside the White House were filmed at Tyler Perry Studios, located southwest of Downtown Atlanta in the former Fort McPherson state.
“He [Tyler Perry] built a small White House statue in his backyard of the studio, and we can photograph it on all four sides.” the production designer revealed. “Anything you see of them coming by car or entering the White House was taken there.” The big city served as the studio for several games, such as ‘The Moon Knight’ and ‘The Walking Dead.’
Also known as the Heart of Georgia, Macon is located in the heart of the region, as part of Bibb County. Known for its cultural status and the Film Festival, the city has doubled as a recording studio for the historic ‘The First Lady’ many times.
A team of producers was spotted on Poplar Street near St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Downtown Macon before the first season production began. ‘The Black Widow’ and ‘The Green Book’ are just some of the many projects undertaken in the historic city.
