Winning Time Season 1 Episode 6, Assistant coach Paul Westhead adds to the list of Lakers’ growing problems as he finds himself facing a Shakespearean mathematical crisis. Popular with corporate sponsors, Earvin contacted a newly acquired financial adviser.
By the end of the episode, the Lakers team has renewed mutual respect between Kareem and Magic. The team goes ahead and wins game by game, rising quickly to the top. Winning Time Season 1 Episode 5: Recap
Winning Time Season 1 Episode 5, entitled ‘Pieces of the Man,’ opens with a recollection of the early days of Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr., a young Islamic convert to the name, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Right now, Buss is trying to find the right balance of beauty and splendor for the Lakers cheer team. He also decides to upgrade the bar sound system, making it difficult for Claire to obtain the required approval during the Lakers’ first home game of the season. Meanwhile, the Lakers will play an away game against the San Diego Clippers as the first game of their season.
Team captain Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is struggling with a decision on his career and is considering resigning. He wants to make a difference in society and raise awareness about racism and racial violence. Elsewhere, McKinney is impressed with the good behavior of Magic Johnson but expects the rookie to show more leadership. McKinney pushes Magic to build a bond with Kareem in an effort to strengthen the team. At the same time, Jerry West is helping McKinney secure Spencer Haywood’s services.
Before the start of the Lakers’ season, the magician tries to contact Kareem but finds it difficult to get around his captain’s tough exterior. However, Magic catches Kareem in the middle of the game and encourages him to become a team player. Kareem, on the other hand, made a huge solo effort in the game, proving his point to McKinney. The Lakers win the game only slightly, raising questions about McKinney’s tactics and their chances of competing in the tournament. Meanwhile, Jeanie hires Paula Abdul to lead the pool team.
Ahead of the first tourist home game under Buss ownership at the newly renovated Forum, Buss reviews preparations and approves Claire’s work. However, Buss is wondering if his investment in the Lakers will really make him happy. Just before the match, Kareem and Magic had an argument in the dressing room over their conflicting ideas. However, the duo click during the game and develop respect for each other. In the end, the Lakers start to dominate the league and are considered bigots. However, disaster is looming on the horizon.
