Winning Time Season 1 Episode 3: Recap
Winning Time Season 1 Episode 3 opens after Jerry West offered his resignation to Buss. Buss is outraged by West’s resignation and feels that the decision will hurt the party. In addition, the training camp for the new season should start in three weeks, making it difficult for the Lakers to find a new coach in such a short time. However, after West expressed his doubts about his ability as a coach in a heated interview, Buss accepted the withdrawal of the former Lakers star.
On the other hand, another former Lakers player enters the scene, but unlike the West, he wants to re-enter the basketball court. Pat Riley, a retired Lakers security guard, is trying to meet publisher Chick Hearn. Riley is unhappy with his life after retirement and wants to get closer to his favorite sport. Therefore, he asks Hearn to photograph him in an empty space for the commentary on The Forum.
Although Hearn is concerned that Riley’s voice is not appropriate for the job, he asks Riley to make the tape as a request. While Riley is working on her voice, she is overwhelmed by the state of her health. His wife, Chris, comforts Riley and continues to work on the tape.
Elsewhere, rookie Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr. arrives in Los Angeles before the new season. However, you quickly get lost in the city razzle-dazzle and feel lonely. Additionally, after an interview with Norm Nixon, Magic becomes uncertain about his place in the team. Meanwhile, Buss is limiting his choice of head coach position.
Buss loves college basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian for this job. To convince the skeptical Tarkani, Buss flies to Las Vegas. Although the deal seems imminent, an unexpected event changes the course of Tarkanian’s career and the Lakers season as a whole.
