Deep Water suffered a few setbacks before it was released, largely due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Once scheduled for the first 2020 theater show, the film was finally released from the show before Disney decided to broadcast it on Hulu. Despite the delays, there were reasons to believe Deep Water is powerful.

Deep Water Movie Review
It marks the return of director Adrian Lyne, who is best known for his masterpieces such as Fatal Attraction, Indecent Proposal, and others (which seems to make him a great asset). Deep Water also starred Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas as the main couple, giving the film two main characters. Unfortunately, the result is not very compelling. Deep Water is an obscure and dreamy object blocked by a weak text that even Affleck and de Armas can preserve.
At Deep Water, Affleck and de Armas lead the way as a married couple Vic and Melinda Van Allen, who has a problem with their relationship. As part of an unusual arrangement, Vic allows Melinda to see other men as long as she is married for the sake of their daughter, Trixie (Grace Jenkins). Vic says she is not bothered by Melinda’s promiscuous behavior, but in the end, things turn out to be dangerous as Vic gets angry and jealous and threatens to get angry and make his marriage a dangerous mental game.
Affleck and de Armas were on the verge of starting a real-life romantic relationship while filming Deep Water, but that chemical formation is not seen in the movie. Somehow, the dynamic work of the story, as their characters apparently have lost their love. However, there are not many traces of sparkle in them for life. Their interaction is emotionless and emotional, which damages the film.
As Deep Water progresses, it becomes difficult for audiences to always invest in these two points. Affleck and de Armas could do little to lift the material. Both have received accolades for some turns recently, but they are not at the top of their game here. Affleck’s performance lacks the negative edge of selling Vic’s arc, while the presence of de Armas’ screen is often muted and hard to make an impact.
Despite the charge, Deep Water seems surprisingly embarrassing, interrupted by a lack of fun to keep the viewer’s attention focused. The script (which makes some changes to the source novel) cannot establish a real sense of narrative momentum. Sounds like an episode more than anything, as Melinda interacts with a new person regularly in a few forums.
There is an attempt to add to the conspiracy in the trial of Don Wilson (Tracy Letts), someone who accuses Vic of doing wrong as Melinda’s friends goes astray. Unfortunately, this little episode is missing out on the program needed to stay on track. Even when things start to improve in the third act, it becomes very small, it is too late.
Much of the direct focus is on Affleck and de Armas, but the supporting characters are still very much undervalued. There are no actors who imitate Melinda’s couple except for a screen wedding that is long enough to leave a comment.
They all change in the right way, especially as each arc follows the same bits of the story. There is also a group of actors who play a group of friends of Vic and Melinda (led by Lil Rel Howery) who are stock actors who have very little to do without reacting to the curiosity of Vic and Melinda. It’s hard to criticize any actors involved as Deep Water screenplay is weak, though no one can even steal certain scenes.
Sending Deep Water to Hulu could be interpreted as a Disney film burial, and it is easy to see why they did not focus too much on it. There were enough pieces here to create something interesting, but it did not fully come together. Live streaming is the best place for Deep Water.
It could easily get lost in shove if it gets the release of the traditional theater – even with Affleck and de Armas as the frontrunners. With attractive streaming options that come with a small screen and a multiplex that begins to turn into a form after a pandemic, it is difficult to recommend Deep Water to anyone who is not a strong fan of any of the talents involved.
