The Gilded Age Season 1 Episode 9: Synopsis
In The Gilded Age Season 1 Episode 9, “Let the Tournament Begin” ’ revealed the truth about the Millbourne, Pennsylvania accident, and a letter sent from George’s office. Marian (Louisa Jacobson) made a decision that would have long-term consequences for her and her family. Armstrong finds some things Peggy (Denée Benton) kept about her and tells their employer. Bertha is visiting Newport with her children as football day approaches.
The Gilded Age Season 1 Episode 8: Recap
The Gilded Age Season 1 Episode 9, entitled ‘Tucked Up in Newport,’ begins as George meets Clay and his lawyers. They are not close to finding out who is in charge of the book. Soon, the case will begin, and if George does not have the necessary evidence at the time, he may end up in prison. George is obviously upset, but he and Bertha keep things going. Gladys and Carrie are preparing for the upcoming football, in the hope of gaining some independence after that.
Oscar meets his girlfriend, John Adams, in private. John really loves Oscar, but the latter thinks he doesn’t have enough money to live the way he wants. In the meantime, Marine decides that she loves Raikes (Thomas Cocquerel), despite what other people feel about her. She decides to escape and tells Peggy about her decision. As they chat, Raikes visits the van Rhijn family and leaves Peggy a book. Armstrong secretly reads the contents of the book and tries to evict Peggy.
Oscar gets a chance to be close to Gladys and the Russell family while in Newport but fails to make significant progress in his stance with them. John, however, appears there, making the story difficult. Towards the end of the episode, Bertha, along with Ward McAllister and Aurora, will see the new Astor family’s new home in Newport. While they are there, Mrs. Astor arrives unexpectedly.
The modest community seems unwilling to accept Bertha and the Russell family among them. Although Mrs. Astor, who believes that George is a force to be reckoned with, completely rejects the idea of allowing Bertha to be part of his community. When Bertha, Ward McAllister, and Aurora learned of Mrs. Astor, they don’t know what to do. With Mrs.
Astor’s help, Bertha is smuggled out of the kitchen. As she walks out the back door, Bertha no doubt feels embarrassed. This will definitely have some consequences for everyone involved. Like her husband, Bertha does not forgive and forget easily.
