The Sky is Everywhere: Movie Synopsis
‘The Sky is Everywhere’ begins with Lennie commemorating the death of her older sister Bailey, who died of a fatal arrhythmia. Bailey’s death ends the joy and happiness of Lennie’s life, as the younger sister finds herself clinging to the memories of her older sister, only to suffer from loneliness. Lennie fails to continue her clarinet habit and begins to share her grief with Toby, Bailey’s boyfriend. Lennie and Toby’s friendship grows closer as she begins to find her dead girlfriend in her younger sister. Lennie, on the other hand, contacted Joe.
Joe also introduces music to Lennie’s life. He forces her to try to play the clarinet again and he succeeds a little. Lennie’s recent contact with Joe hurts Toby, who continues to visit Walkers to see Lennie. She confesses to Lennie that she and Bailey were secretly engaged and revealed that Bailey was pregnant when she died. The revelations hit hard Lennie, who seeks comfort from Toby with a kiss, so Joe can see through it. He breaks up with Lennie and avoids her without even giving her a chance to explain. “The Sky is Everywhere.”
The Sky is Everywhere: Movie Ending
Joe comes to Lennie’s life when the latter struggles with Bailey’s death and the issue of having a close relationship with her sister’s boyfriend. Overcome by feelings of inadequacy, Joe enters his life and makes it easy for him.
It makes him listen to Bach and rekindle the love of music for him and after Bailey’s death. His efforts have prompted Lennie to retrieve the clarinet to play it. However, Toby’s presence in Lennie’s life and their intimacy are hurting Joe and breaking up with him.
As Joe suffers from PTSD connected with his ex-girlfriend – who cheated on him with his friend – he is shocked to see Lennie kissing Toby. Her trauma returns to her and stops her from listening to Lennie’s explanations. Her fear of injury stifles Lennie and her reasons. Lennie, on the other hand, misses Joe very much. She tries her best to explain her position and feelings to show that she did nothing to hurt him. However, Joe’s frustration and fear of injury prevent him from speaking up.
Nevertheless, Lennie continues to persevere. He just doesn’t answer Joe and keeps seeing him. His persistence eventually succeeded in alleviating Joe’s pain. As he looks at Lennie’s many notes and writings – which he collects at different times without realizing that they belong to Lennie – he understands that the universe shows that Lennie is who he is.
His belief that the universe was capable of guiding him eventually convinced him that the random texts he had collected actually directed him to Lennie. Awareness leads him to reunite with Lennie, putting his worries and temporary pain aside for the love of his life.
As Lennie sincerely believes, the texts and notes Joe encountered could be Bailey’s way of uniting his younger sister with a worthy boy from heaven. Those random pieces of paper direct her to Lennie’s world, which pleases her and creates sparks of love in her. Joe sees those texts as evidence of his inevitable union with Lennie.
She mustered up the courage to overcome the trauma of abandonment and the fear of injury in order to rush to Lennie. He jumps into the air balloon and floats on the love of his life, just as they always dreamed while listening to Bach. Joe not only gives Lennie a second chance but also himself to fix his pain and rekindle his feelings for Lennie. He puts the past aside to be immersed in Lennie’s beautiful world, to share and nurture love again. “The Sky is Everywhere.”
