This Is Us Season 6 Episode 3: Recap
This Is Us Season 6 Episode 3 begins with a flashback of the Rockstar era. Jack is holding a grill in the backyard of his magnificent house. Judging by the appearance and the lack of a child, I would say that this is not after he has grown up but just before his wife, Lucy, became pregnant obviously. Jack jokes about letting the blind man cook, but he seems to know what he’s doing, and Lucy doesn’t seem to care.
“I know it sounds crazy, but every now and then, that smell starts to bother me, and it takes me back that day,” said Jack as he put the meat on the fire. Lucy is an outstanding entertainer. “You know, you don’t have to use that thing anymore.”
“It’s a real sign of the day your parents’ marriage broke down,” she said, pulling her hair out to reveal the scar. We also have a vague memory – apparently from little Jack’s look – of Toby saying, “Don’t get too close, darling,” and then Kate panics and calls out Jack’s name.
Kate and Toby’s marriage is suffering more than they ever imagined because of their long-term relationship. When Toby gets home, the montage shows them that they have problems with setting up, but they both put on a happy face. They also set a date to see Kate’s students sing at the school concert before going shopping for frozen yogurt.
But things get tense as soon as Toby ignores Kate’s warnings and keeps Jack awake before his bedtime, which can lead to injuries when the babysitter arrives. Toby agrees to stay, freeing the nanny from commitment. But he does it in a weird way of doing nothing, and Kate is tired, so she goes to the concert alone.
